Jason Witten "unretiring"

A healthy Greg Olsen? Sure.

Unfortunately, that particular animal hasn't existed for a couple of years. And paying a guy a full season's salary for a partial season of contributions for the third year in a row isn't exactly good roster management.

I don't disagree, but this isn't the year to cut him.  No matter what happens, he won't be with us in 2020, his cap hit is just too big.

Our best case scenario with Olsen is that he comes back this year, stays healthly and plays like Greg Olsen again and then retires at the end of the season.

No, because the idea that anybody "deserves" to take up current salary cap money because they've been good in the past or they've been with us for a long time is emotional, not logical.

Smart teams know that you pay players based on what they're going to do this year, not what they did last year or five years ago.

Allowing sentiment and emotion to affect your roster decisions is how you end up with contracts like the Jake Delhomme extension, and rosters that aren't good enough to win championships.

No emotion or sentiment from me on my thought process.

I don't doubt Greg's  current ability to produce.

It's clear many others disagree. Your choice.

When's the last time Olson finished a full season?

The last year he finished a full season he had 3 back to back to back 1000 yard seasons.  Yeah, your right, He's probably done.

That was three years ago.

For each of the past two years, recurring injuries have taken him out of half the games.

Paying a full season salary for half a season's work is poor management.

Olsen has a combined 482 yards the last two years. 3 1000 yard seasons followed by 482 yards in two seasons due to injuries in the same foot. It's a really bad bet to say he is going to add much on the field this year. It human nature to want to believe that is not true. Fact is, we should cut bait, thank him for his services and wish him the best in his new job.

I wouldn't be devastated if he retired. It's likely over for him physically and I think he knows it. How much confidence can you have in your foot at this point?

He seems like he would be perfectly suited in the coaching world but I think that media life is perfect for a young father.

With that same logic.

Cut Cam.

Cut Luke.

I can go on, but if management were to cut every player that gets hurt,  we wouldn't be able to field a team. Ever.

Cam and Luke never missed as much time as Olsen and they still produced. Olsen hasn't. Add in the age difference and it shows how little you are trying to grasp the concept of proper roster management vs working with friends and doing a garbage job. Olsen is an awesome human and a marginal NFL player at this point. If he was coming in at vet minimum it would be a whole other conversation.
