Some notes from my source involving the NFL draft

Things I think I know going into Thursday, based on various sources:

Andre Dillard or Jonah Williams are the surest bets to be the Panthers pick at 16. There is a possibility that we'll trade up to get one of them, but a very slim possibility. If they both come off the board before #16, which is only about a 20% chance, it'll mean one of the DL guys we're looking at slide. We'll fall back on whoever that is (it is between Oliver, Gary, and Wilkins, in that order,) or look to trade down. The only wild card here would be if Devin White were to fall in our lap (he won't.)

Daniel Jones could, and should, be the third QB taken, and he should be off the board in the top 15. He's still up there at the top of my list, even higher than Murray. He could slide, sure, but I think there is at least two teams that covet him.

Garrett Bradbury is a late first-mid second round pick. #16 is too early.

Darnell Savage will be off the board in the second round.

David Long, CB from Michigan, will go a lot sooner than most are predicting. Could be as early as early second round.

You know what else has to be fixed that hasn’t had much resources spent on? The defensive line. And do you know what the strength of this draft is? Defensive line...hmmm 1+1=2

It’s strong because it’s deep - meaning there’s talent in rounds 2 and 3 that can immediately help our pass rush. Protecting the franchise that just had two shoulder surgeries is a more urgent need. That said, depending who falls I can see it go either way. But strictly speaking, OL vs. DL in the order that needs adressing - it’s OL all day.

And I disagree all day.

Lets just put it this way.

Our starting Oline today would be

Moton, Greg Van Roten, Paradis, Turner, Williams

barring any injuries, that’s a decent oline

our starting dline today?

Addison, Love, Short, Obada/Haynes

thats not putting any pressure on a quarterback. Defensive line is the bigger need and should be addressed first and perhaps again in the latter rounds.         Oline can wait until round 2 or 3

If we are going to trade up at all, I'd trade into the top of the second round for the Kansas State OT. He is a great player, fills a major need and costs us a lot less for the trade as compared to trading up in the first which guts our draft this year.

Sweat or Burns in the 1st

Risner in the 2nd would be a helluva haul

How do you know Moton will be such a fantastic LT? He’s played there 3/4ths of one game (Cowboys)

We also signed Bruce Irvin.

DL does need to be addressed but as I see it right now, we have a huge hole at LT. That won’t be solved by putting a lifelong RT there and hoping for the best.

First, he played LT the entire game against the Cowboys. He was the starting LT. He also played almost the entire game against the first team Patriots DL as LT and week 4 preseason as well.

It’s not hoping. I watched him because I watch preseason which is why I recall Daryl Williams looking awful in his LT reps before he becamse the starting RT.

I don’t think we have a hole at LT. In fact, give him the full offseason at LT (he didn’t have that last year) and I’d be willing to bet he’d be as good a LT as any player in this draft.

Agree to disagree on that one, Moton is not a LT. He’s been a stud at RT and it would be a moronic choice to make him switch positions now.

I still think it's got to be best player available whether that's an OT or a DE. If the top DEs are gone and you can grab a Andre Dillard that's a win on Thursday. An O line of

LT Dillard/Moton

LG Daryl/GVR

C Paradis/Larsen

RG Trai/Mahon

RT Moton/Daryl

And then Daryl has tackle flexibility as well so if someone gets hurt you still got good depth with Larsen and Van Roten.

Yeap, Moton was the emergency backup at LT because Kalil was hurt. If he was such a stud there then why did we sign Chris Clark to replace him? He’s way better on the right side, that’s why.
