Dan Morgan on Matt Moore

No, we actually watched the games he started in. :banghead:

So did I(his awful game against Dallas and games against 2 teams giving their starters a day off). Along with his games in college. And his preseason games. And never once have I been impressed with him.

Moore not being a guy they think should start an NFL game is a lot different than "should we try to develop him". He's on the team because they've seen enough to think he could, one day. Doesn't mean that day is now.

But I guess we'll see.

Valid.

With me, it's not so much that I think Moore is a star. It's more along the lines of thinking that Feeley stinks outside the West Coast and that Delhomme is just too far gone at this point.

I don't know if we can win with Moore, but I'm more sure that we can't win with Delhomme.

(and I really, really hate saying that)

Awful game against Dallas? Are you serious? He played well that game. That INT was a mistake but if Carter didn't get tackled down field(no PI btw) he would have had much better stats. We were cheated out of that game no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Moore was fine.

He got sacked 7 times, threw a pick, didnt break 200 yards, and barely completed 50% of his passes. He was awful.

You've pretty much summed up the feelings of everyone that wants Jake benched. Nobody has really stated that Moore will usher in the rapture, or that he IS awesome at QB. Just that they guy deserves MORE of what lil chance he has gotten. That and his upsides. Still some have seen enough out of Moore, somehow, somewhere  to deem him not worthy of NFL play because the almighty John Fox has decreed it so. Again, Fox keeps Jake in the game people. You trust him??!!??

And yes I'm agreeing with you. Just had to try one last time to help people understand the logic.

Again, all this was achieved only having been on the team a matter of weeks. Sorry if he doesn't meet your approval but Peyton Manning is already taken .

"After a string of ineffective performances from Carr and Vinny Testaverde, Moore started his first NFL game on December 16, 2007 against the Seattle Seahawks. He led the Panthers to victory against the Seahawks while completing 19 of 27 passes for 208 yards without a turnover. After a tough loss against Dallas the next week, where he had a touchdown and an interception all the while completing 15 of 28 passes for 182 yards, he threw for two touchdowns in a road win against Tampa Bay. Moore was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for December after these performances."

So a 53.6% completion rate, 1:1 TD to INT ratio, 182 passing yards (6.5 per pass play) whilst being sacked 5 times is awful?

That's right get the facts RIGHT.

I wouldn't say it's awful when our rushing attack produced just 69 yards, 39 of which were by one run from DeAngelo. That's around 2.3 per carry in case you were wondering, without the long run.

awful is Jake Delhomme...

73 yards, 4 picks, 1 FL, and 3 sacks, barely completed 40% of his passes. That is awful. That was with a better OL and ground game to work with...than what Moore had in 07.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
