Mario Addison could be cut/traded- save 8 million cap

Valid point. Ive still seen 4-3 looks in pre-season, but Im still not sure he is the best we have(at this stage).

If you have 50 snaps do you want 40-burns 10-mario or 40-mario 10 burns?

You have to put in guys each game who are balling out that day. Sure you have your old standbys but you rotate guys in and give more reps to those guys playing the best that day. So you would play Burns or Mario based on what you are trying to accomplish, and who is the most effective that day. It can vary from game to game based on opponent and what you are running. For example if you play a run heavy team then Mario might gets lots of reps. If you are playing a pass happy team then maybe Burns is better for that scheme. Everything 8n football is situational which changes from week to week.

If bradberry signed a new deal a portion of his signing bonus could hit this year. The amount needed could be more than 7 million in space. That what normally happens, unless the wording is different. Market is insane and Bradberry could get a huge deal.

Poe should be cut next year adding a few million, but thats still awful low for needing 25 players.

Matt Paradis has a 3.8M cap hit on a 3/27M contract. Something similar to Bradberrys probably 10/11M yr. It’s not that hard, and doesn’t require cutting your only proven pass rusher and best edge run defender.

This is not true at all. If we did this, we could use that 8M this year or it rolls over. What rule says it can’t? I’ve never seen anything like that.

So no cap saving, are you sure? Thought for sure could get 8 in saving. Only spent rule I know of is 89/90 of teams cap must be spend. Does mario have a unique contract?

The concept is based around the 89% rule. Since Mario's contract is a guaranteed 8 million this year, it is considered a "spend" for 2019 as opposed to a salary to be paid. That means it will not carry over. As opposed to a non-guaranteed contract where a player is paid each week/game they play (pending on how the contract is written). Since we are past the point of where guaranteed contracts have become guaranteed -  the money is calculated as a 2019 "spend."

The 8 mil would not roll over into the next year due to the time of period of where we stand with his status of contract. If we were to cut him, we could use the money on free agent player, or a pro-rated signing bonus for any extensions we hand out. However, that money can NOT be spread out over the span of a contract, rather paid out today.

This is the exact situation we are in with T. Smith. That is why cutting smith would not be a financial decision, rather a coaches decision.

If hurny gets Bradberry for 10/11 per, hed be a GM god. A couple of nickle guy signed for that amount this year. Plus if his first year hits for 3.8 2x god GM.

His contract is not guaranteed 8M this year. It has 6.5 base salary. Then sites differ on the rest. One has 2.6M dead, OTC has 4.6M. Nothing totaling 8M. If he’s cut, we don’t pay him. And we can do whatever we want with it. There is a minimum spending rule but we are never near that.

The Dolphins just cut TJ McDonald. Saved 5.1M in cap space. So the rebuilding Dolphins have to spend that on a FA now, or before the season is over? Is that was this is saying?

Got it, it could be used to sign Bradberry/Shaq/FA this year only. Can not roll over for 2020 cap help due to timing. Minor in this discussion, except for chimps throwing poop.

I believe he had issue with me stating you could "roll it over" for next years cap. Cause it would be valuable to do so, but according the date to do so has passed.

There is no such date. It’s not guaranteed. We can do anything we want.

And we have already went through why it’s not a “valuable” idea to anyone but you.

All I have to say is if y’all cut Addison, watch how fast he signs with us to get to play y’all twice this year.

The NFL sack leaders over the last three years:

  • Chandler Jones - 40.5
  • Khalil Mack - 36.5
  • Von Miller - 34.5
  • Ryan Kerrigan - 33.5
  • Everson Griffen - 31.5

You forgot Cameron Jordan and his 32.5 sacks.

Ah I did not confirm that the OP was accurate about the 8mil guaranteed. At this point it would be a bone head move to cut Mario, because we would have to eat a good sum of money.

As for TJ, Im not sure where you got the 5.1m.....

The Dolphins will save $1.4 million against the salary cap this year with the move. They will carry $4.6 million in dead money. They will also have $1.9 million in dead money in 2020 from the move

I read a blurb on Rotoworld and seemed relevant and didn’t check it.

Dolphins released S T.J. McDonald.

Releasing McDonald saves $5.1 million against the cap, which makes some sense for the rebuilding Dolphins, but the former third-round pick was quite productive last year and could start on some teams. Last year, McDonald racked up 86 tackles while picking off three passes. Only entering his age-28 season, McDonald will be given another opportunity elsewhere.
