Veteran QB Options

Which also might be precisely why they'd keep Bridgewater. Playing Hill as that Swiss army knife exposes him to a lot more potential injury situations than the typical backup QB. If you're going to do that, you probably have to keep three QBs.

Also possible.

I said in the initial post that CJ Beathard could be a more likely possibility than Bridgewater. I still don't completely discount Bridgewater is an option though, especially given the amount of pull that Norv Turner seems to have.

That's probably the biggest wild card.

The lack of innovative playcalling here in the preseason hasn’t done Allen any favors. And I understand why Norv doesn’t want to show his hand right now.

Defenses, on the other hand, have been scheming and blitzing across the league all preseason.

I’m willing to let these guys continue, but the rookie is going to need a lot of time. Allen will be fine.

I think.

I hope.

The speculation doesn't make sense considering they spent a ton on a win now emergency option

It is all just speculation though.

I think the vast majority of people right now believe that our depth chart is going to read Newton / Allen / Grier.

Not a whole lot of people expecting Heinicke to make it, for certain. Person didn't really even mention him except to say that he was pretty much gone.

Overall, I agree. But, I think we've been plenty patient enough with Rivera. The only guys who have been with their current team longer than Rivera are Belichick, Payton, Carroll, Tomlin, Harbough, and Garrett. Rivera and Garrett are the only two without a ring.

Yeah, it's surely time for him to make his point this year, I think. He probably knows that.

Hopefully Norv used all of his pull for the QB group getting his guy in the 3rd round. Might be time for Norv to sit back and coach them after that call. Not saying Grier is an outright bust, but the early signs are not promising.

I agree with that depth chart. Don't think we will risk Grier on the practice squad and he is not touching a starting lineup right now. Going to have to roster 3 QBs.

There's not enough patience in sports in general. Constant turnover in situations where a seed you just planted (and didn't water) doesn't even have a chance to sprout before you declare it dead. It's ridiculous to me.

Just really short-sighted much of the time for me. I know you want butts in the seats, but growing pains are part of the process of developing teams/players.

Patience died a slow death after free agency hit town.

I watch a lot of SF games just as many as panther games, and I would take C.J in a heartbeat, hes a tough AF kid, who was behind a abysmal line, no WR, a different rb every week.

Yeah I would take him no problem IMO instant upgrade to what we have currently.

I don't see SF easily parting with him, Mullens hasn't looked that much better in the preseason over CJ

I like Norv, but there are some things about him that concern me.

One thing in particular is I think some of his input regarding assistant hires has been a little bit self-serving, i.e. keeping anybody that might be serious competition for his son Scott to be his successor out of the game.

That falls under tinfoil hat territory mind you, but it's something I keep in the back of my mind.

Saints are all in for this season, Brees is OLD and if he loses any amount of time, even 2 or 3 games, .....they're keeping Taysom and Teddy.   There are no better options for them.

Bridgewater is probably the best backup option in the league right now, or the closest to starting caliber (don't really consider Jones as a backup)

JMHO

Funny thing in SF is it sounds like people are panicking over Garoppolo too.

My own unprofessional opinion, I don't really think Bridgewater is that good.

He looked worse then anybody with his experience should look in that season ender last year.

The Saints and Norv Turner probably disagree with me, of course.
