The rookie's bad day looked like a regular Sunday for Gano as of late.

last 2 seasons, Gano has never missed 2 kicks in a game.

recently, people are portraying Gano as a worse kicker than he is and Slye as a better one.  Price tag discussion is different.

If this was Gano......All I am gonna say is that the same excuses wouldn't have been said for him. I'm just saying.

yep.  Everyone would say Gano is suppose to do his job and kick and kick.  How many times have we seen kicks split through the hands of defenders that have gotten through a line.

I don't buy Slye was trying to do some Neo from the Matrix kick at the last minute.   Think he got shook and kicked it bad.

I never knew how bad Daryl William's sucked until this season.

He's never been good.

There are a few things in football that I don't do a whole lot of talking about.

How many Pro Bowls a player has been to, how many "All Pro" teams a player has been voted to, wins and losses tied directly to QB's, and how many super bowl rings a person has and if that makes them great or not.

Williams was an OK player at best, then he got hurt, then no team wanted him, then we paid him, then we moved him out of position.

What did we think was going to happen?

Gano is having knee issues and he will be 33 next year. It's a losers mentality to want to hold onto aging underperforming players. That's the way the Panthers used to do things. If we could cut Thomas Davis, no one is beyond that happening to them. Even guys like Cam. At the end of the day Slye is a rookie being paid a fraction of what Gano will cost this season, and he will cost even more next season. It's an abundantly clear amount of common sense to state that even if Slye isn't the guy next year, odds are we won't just be returning to overpaying for the same level of performance we could get from a rookie. Especially not with the contracts and needs we have coming up.

I agree with you.

I just don't like how people are making excuses for him because they hate Gano so bad.

You're missing my point. My point is that if Gano was healthy and missed all these kicks in a game...no matter how bad the blocking was, people would be calling for his heads. It seems like to me people are ok With Sly missing kicks because he isn't making as much money as Gano. I have never seen people defend Gano like they are defending Slye

Do you really think that he if he misses more kicks that more people won't eventually start "calling for his head"?

This type of stuff isn't only specific to Gano or Slye. Do you not remember the days of Olindo Mare? Remember when fans rejoiced about getting a veteran kicker who at the time had one of the most accurate careers? He ended up getting ran out of town. That can happen to any kicker.

Gano missed only 2 FGs last year before being placed on IR and nailed a 63 yard GW as time expired and people still wanted Gano gone. People wanted Gano gone before that. People just don't want Gano back and that's fine but keep that same energy with Slye instead of making excuses for him.

kicking is more like golf than football.

will be interesting to see how he comes back this week after a bad outing.  The questions about Slye's kicking game have never been leg talent.

You talk like Gano is one of the better kickers in history or something. He's mostly middle of the pack. He isn't Adam Vinatieri, but even Vinatieri was replaced when the time came. The Patriots calmly drafted Gostkowski and kept it pushing. That's the reality of the business of football.
