NFL: No stone unturned

Kellen Moore has been getting some positive press as Cowboys OC. He's been mentioned as a possible hot head coaching candidate in the press, and his name has even come up on this board as an option if we were to be looking next year.

But the Saints defense figured out a way to get some clues on how to beat his offense by employing an unusual tactic.

They studied Moore's college playing tape.

Saints got clues to Cowboys offense from Kellen Moore's Boise State tape

Gotta give em credit. Outside the box thinking, and it worked. That's the kind of thing I'd like to see us do.

It might not be as esoteric as going back to watch the offensive coordinator's college game film, but our coaches did a damn good job identifying and scheming an offensive gameplan that took advantage of the Jags LBers propensity to over pursue run plays by using misdirection and jet sweep motion by the WRs (and actually run it a couple times to make the defense respect it) and then having the Oline down block which allowed massive cutback lanes that led to TD runs of 84 and 59 yards along with 285 total rushing yards.

Obviously, having that level of success is to a certain extent predicated on the otherworldly year CMC is having, but the coaches still deserve credit.

The Saints coaches have obviously been good this year, but I can't find too much to complain about from a game planning standpoint for the most part so far this year from our side.

The only caveat so far was that the offensive coaches didnt seem to have a good answer to the Bucs defensive gameplan to throttle CMC.

I will be disappointed if we don't have a better plan on Sunday.

We just had a game where we shut down one of those explosive QBs in the entire NFL, limiting him to 172 total yards of offense.  Sandwiched between his games of 473 and 369 with 79% cmp%.

Our defense is playing better than the Saints in almost every stat I looked at.  Yards/g.  Points/g.  Turnovers.

I feel confident that they are looking at what they need to look at to win games.
