Going to call it now.  Dude ain't coming back lfor the Panthers or any other team.  And who can blame him.  He's got fame and fortune so why does he need more pain ?

@mjligon pointed this out in another thread and it made a helluva lot of sense to me. Cam went to Green Bay on his own dime to get a second opinion on his foot. None of us is inside Cam's head or close personal friends with him (at least I don't think so) but he pointed out that that action does not suggest someone thinking about walking away from the game, it suggests someone doing everything he can to get back on the field.

Not saying that walking away for a player with Cam's injury history, age and already banked earnings wouldn't be a perfectly reasonable course of action, but this one piece of circumstantial evidence seems to argue pretty strongly against the idea.

How do we know he went on his own dime and the team wasn't involved? Just because you fly commercial and go by yourself doesn't mean you are on your own. After all he is going to Anderson who used to be our team doctor and Rivera mentioned it at the time. I do agree that Cam is competitive and would hate to go out the way he did. I think he will work hard to rehab and take that 1 year deal to prove he still has what it takes. I doubt he is done yet.

It's possible, but I doubt it. I think he either comes back for us next year or forces his outright release and pulls a reverse-McCoy and signs with the Bucs.

He won't be released he will be traded so we can determine where he goes. He has little leverage at this point.

Fair enuff, don't know for a fact he went on his own dime. Still think the trip suggests he's likely not looking to back out, along with what we know in general of Cam's competitive spirit. I could see him souring on the organization, they have done a piss poor job of getting a quality line to protect him more years than not and his receiving corps has rarely been anything to get excited about, but if you're a pro athlete there's a difference between not wanting to play anymore and not wanting to play anymore for your present team. I'd hate to see Cam play elsewhere, but I regard it as more likely he wants out of Carolina than he wants out of football altogether, but I don't think of either as particularly likely anyway.

He can simply tell any team willing to trade for him that he's not willing to play for them and that he'll either hold out or retire.

And how does further his desire to be an icon and what team would want him after that. Maybe it works for a running back like Bell but not a quarterback. Has any quarterback done that in the history of the league?

Hell, Eli did it immediately after being drafted #1 overall. Elway did it to the Colts after being drafted too.

Why would you go elsewhere with the talent now on your team? Sure he didn't have a good supporting cast and you can thank Gettleman for that but he does have a good cast now.  Where is he going to go as a starter with a better cast than we have?

Not true. Eli's dad said he wouldn't play for the Chargers before the draft and the Chargers who actually liked Rivers drafted him anyway to.prove they weren't going to be bullied by a draftee or his father. He was a Charger long enough for the Chargers to swap Eli for Phillip or the first draft pick with the 4th.

Answer the question. What established quarterback in the league has successfully gotten a release by threatening to hold out?

*shrugs*

Not saying it's the most likely scenario, but since it appears quite possible there are things going on behind closed doors we're not aware of, just saying he could be on the outs with the organization or specific people in it and fed up. When people become emotional they aren't always rational, and the quality of his supporting cast wouldn't necessarily factor into his thinking in such a scenario. Either way, let me be clear, that sort of thing is something I regard as possible but not likely.

I think if you held a gun to my head right now and demanded I guess what the story is, it's that Cam wants to come back, but Tepper isn't making any promises and wants to see what the team can do with Allen as the qb or at least wants Cam to sit out the rest of the season to fully heal whether he likes it or not. This is my best guess based on the information I have in hand, but it's still just a guess, I don't know anything more than anybody else here. I guess we'll see.

    • I don't think they changed as much as you think between the INT and the final sack (immediate pressure with 4 linemen). They definitely stopped blitzing as much, if a blitz means rushing more than the front 4/5. They definitely did some exotic packages where they sent LBs/DBs and dropped linemen into coverage though. The fumble and INT were both blitzes. And yes they were successful. And yes, I agreed with Bryce not taking care of the ball. Really not many answers on those plays - just take the sack and live another play (unless you're Lamar). Which he didn't do. And no, you can't run prevent on the goal line. What's prevent defense to you? Alignment, personnel, cushion, etc.? Just curious. My reply was to the post that they sat back in some soft zone the whole game - until the end, when it mattered. That's not true. They blitzed, they disguised coverages and blitzers, they pressed, they bailed, they covered the flats, all of that. Not trying to argue. Just trying to inform. Actually they only blitzed once on the final drive, and the DB got away with a bad hold on Tremayne. Otherwise looked like it would have been a completion for a first down. The Cardinals' final drive defense looked a lot like the rest of the game.  I know it's easy to get upset after a lose (I'm guilty), but Mondays are when cooler heads prevail. Right? Emotions can make us seem like we don't know what we're talking about. The Huddle isn't supposed to be that. I always saw it as a place to go discuss the Carolina Panthers with more than the casual fan, and their emotionally charged opinions. I can get that at the local grocery store, where they don't know anything about NC/SC, let alone the Panthers.
    • Poor guy went from the Ravens to this disaster
    • You have to make the best of it and find moments of happiness.  So, I picked up the Falcons D in my money league for this week.
