I agree, but it's also fair to point out that it was his choice to do so.

There were other viable choices for defensive coordinator available. Rivera chose instead to bend over backwards to save Eric Washington.

That's his decision. He wasn't willing to replace Eric Washington. At the end of the day, it's just another bad coaching/management decision by Ron Rivera. There's a lot of things I like about Ron, but it's past time for both parties to part ways.

I don't disagree.  In fact, that is my point.  Washington should have been gone or demoted.  And a new guy brought in.

The problem is that right now we're running the worst of both worlds on defense.  We have 3-4 players in a largely 4-3 alignment.  It's dumb.

The only actual 4-3 DE on the team is Addison.  You might be able to argue Bruce Irvin, but he's always been more hybrid and apt to stand up.  You've got a BUNCH of 4-3 DT's on the team.  You've got Poe who is a 3-4 NT who isn't lining up over the center consistently.

I get that losing KK limited some options, but if the loss of one player breaks your entire scheme and you can't figure out how to work around it, perhaps you shouldn't be coaching in the NFL.

Literally nothing else matters right now. Every other issue is so far in the rearview mirror that it might as well be irrelevant.

The OL is a mess and yeah, injuries have really hurt us and caused us to continually play musical chairs but they have to play better. I would seriously consider benching Paradis for Larsen at this point. He's been terrible. We're probably just going to have to hope we get healthy at LT, but we have to try to scheme around it in the meantime.

We desperately needed to add speed on the edges on the defensive side of the ball, but not at the expense of ditching all the size/power. From what I can see, we're basically still running a four DL front, we're just doing it with primarily 3-4 OLB types playing DE. It's not a surprise our run D has fallen off so hard. We went from one glaring weakness on the DL to the exact opposite glaring weakness. It felt desperate in the off-season and it's proven to look like the result of desperation on the field.

If we can't block better on the OL and stop the run better on D, then all the bickering about QBs, WRs, safeties, Luke's stats being down, etc. simply don't matter. It all starts up front and we have massive issues in the trenches in both sides of the ball.

Rivera and Hurney spent all offseason signing and drafting 3-4 OLBs to help kick start the new 3-4 scheme they were hyping up only to basically never use it and go right back to 4-3 90% of the time.

Run defense is going to be dog poo in a 4-3 if you literally don’t have any 4-3 DEs on your roster to set the edge.

From my understanding they had Addison slim down and work on dropping into pass coverage in the offseason to help the transition to a 3-4. Irvin has always been a pass rushing olb in a 4-3 similar to Anthony Barr.

Only 4-3 end we have is Wes Horton and we just signed him off the street a week ago.
