On the flip side, we've had only a few seasons of less that 7 wins in 25 years.  Nothing to really toot your horn over, but again, there are fan bases that deal with much worse.

That's objectively true, but it's one of those things that makes me cringe because it's the same argument that's very frequently used to defend the idea of sticking with Ron Rivera and/or Marty Hurney.

He's getting the headquarters though.

Frankly, the more I read about that, the more I think "Tepper World" is going to be built to outdo Jerry World.

The new practice facility was almost a given and it was tax breaks (loss of tax revenue) rather than a new tax hike that made that come to fruition.  No burden to the tax payer. A new stadium...that HAS to be in the form of a new or increased tax.  Totally different ballgame there.

I always have a hard time accepting that argument because you make more money by winning.

Granted, you can still make good money without it, but not as much.

And for whatever else you think of Tepper, his whole "what I care most about is winning" thing is something I believe to be the truth. He's too competitive for it not to be.

What that the Spanos' family done to think that they actually want a winning football team long term?

Do they want one?  Sure.  Is it THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to them?  Nah.

The winning is nice, but the easy money is nicer.

I'd be ok if he is at least trying to make changes. Sticking with someone for too long is idiotic. If Rivera is here another year, I'm taking the year off like I did in 2010 when Fox still stuck around.

I suspect you might not be alone.

At this point, I'm not even trying to predict what's going to happen with Ron and Marty.

Valid.

I do feel fairly comfortable saying that the guy who bought his ex-wife's house just to tear it down probably has a bit more of a competitive streak in him though.

I can stand a young team that fights and gets progressively better

i can stand an injured team that fights and is competitive until those injured comes back

what I can’t stand is an unmotivated professional team that has a ‘just glad to be here’ attitude  coached by a stupid (sorry no other term for it) unmotivated, just glad to be here coaching staff that gets humiliated several times a year on national tv, both home and away......a team that consistently makes every conceivable mistake that a team  and staff can make in 4 qtrs of football...not peewee...not jr high...not jr varsity...not high school...not college...PRO FOOTBALL

in pro football, if you aren’t getting better, you are getting worse

100% agree.....so far.

What I have heard is a lot of rah rah out of Tepper.  Now comes the tough decisions....let's see if he can pull the trigger.

I also heard some of the very same stuff flowing out of Rivera's mouth when he was first hired here as well.  This time I'm going to hold off on the excitement until I see the action.

Wanting to win and knowing how to win are two very different things.

I always maintained that Jerry Richardson actually did want to win. He just didn't have a clue how to do it.

My hope for this offseason is still that Tepper manages to snag Kevin Colbert, hands the team over to him and says "you take care of it". That's a guy that knows how to win.

All for it...unless we can talk Ozzie out of retirement?

Exactly! The Fox coached Panthers almost won the Superbowl two seasons after going 1-15 under Seifert.

Didn't really take the Rams all that long either. Ditto the Broncos when Elway took charge (with John Fox added later, ironically enough).

The downside of each of those examples though, Panthers included, is that it wasn't sustained.

The NFL has shown that you can build a quick winner with relative ease, but building a perennial contender is another story.

That thought has crossed my mind. And I think Newsome and Tepper are actually acquainted. I know he's friends with Colbert and trusts him.

Newsome probably doesn't want to be a GM again, but there is always that "consultant" role.

    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
    • At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...
    • Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
