Wade Philips?

That’s if he’s fired by LA. I don’t see him taking a lateral move. If he’s the guy the new HC wants to bring in if he’s fired, that’s fine. But id rather not target him for DC just because.

His contract is up after this year. Rams want a shakeup after their superbowl hangover. Wade is the fall guy. I don't think they keep him. And why wouldn't he take a lateral move? He seems like he still wants to coach and I don't think at his age he would want another head coaching job.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it but we really need innovation more than anything. Hire an offensive minded head coach paired with a solid and competent defensive coordinator who actually has a succesful history as a DC. Wade won't be the only option on that front.

Yep, but he excels more in 3-4. Either route we take, he is a proven DC who can coach both 3-4 and 4-3 and would be a MASSIVE upgrade to what we have now.

People jist dont get it.

We can switch to a 4-3 and we still will look like trash.

Scheme aint the problem.  DT's have been trash and the problem.  Your rolling with Love and Butler as starters your going to have problems.

When your 3-4 DEs are being blocked 1 on 1 by the worst blocking TE in football, your going to have a problem.

We could have been running the 4-3 the last 10 weeks, amd our D would still be ranked where it is.

We're also talking about a defense that blew not one but two 3rd and 16s on a final drive when they were fighting for their playoff lives.

It isn’t like the 49ers are scrubs.  They’ve been making clutch plays all season.

Phillips would be an amazing DC hire.  His reputation speaks for itself.

    • Cooter, Kurb, others have passed on to glory….  Praise be.
    • Oh good for them! Hope this is the start of a long happy time in their lives here.
    • There was no reason to believe in either Cam or Jake as a top tier elite QB before those seasons either. Cam was an "athletic" QB in most people's minds and his passing skills were open for debate. And there was a bit to that as he was still trying to get that massive power in his arm tamed to be able to put some touch on his passes. And then, he did it. Missiles became bombs, the firing lanes became points of finesse. Cam grew up and leveled up, while still retaining the ability and drive to truck people whenever he wanted. And Jake... no one freaking believed in Jake except Jake himself. He got, and let's be honest with this, one chance in a losing game to make something out of his career. And he rose to the occasion like some kind of mythical hero and continued to do so for the season. He became a true leader for the team, and his gunslinger capabilities rehabbed Moose's career and created Smitty as a force in the league. Smitty went from a barker to a biter. But no one believed in Jake going in. And they trashed him on his way out. Now Bryce... who knows? I've seen some improvement. Maybe he finds his footing. His teammates seem to love and respect him and that means a lot. The game should be moving at his speed now. He has weapons available to him and maybe a defense that doesn't just roll over by the third quarter. And his coach seems to be moving this team in the right direction. Could he do it? It's up to him, if he can find the magic like Jake and Cam did. But don't doubt this, magic is really, really hard to find.
