So the media believes Fox is a genius??

Who cares... as long as he's not our coach

I wonder how many Bronco's fans said that about Shannahan, and they started off undefeated, and what they was saying then

Yeah, because teams who make coaching changes generally start off undefeated the next season *rolls eyes*

Probably right. Over hyped mediocre coaches get signed a few times before the league figures out they are not worth it.

See Dom Capers.

You may be right, and you may not be.

What it comes down to is the fact that teams are going to take notice of a guy that

A) Has a winning record

B) Has built a team full of talent

C) Has had his team in playoff contention every single season he's been here.

I don't think he is a bad coach. Conservative at times, but he believes in his philosophy.

I think other than mistakes by certain players we have a very strong team. The shelves aren't bare.

It's really, really hard to win a championship in the NFL.

Coach Fox also believes in his players, that they are professionals. They are men, not figures on a screen in Madden, and he treats them with respect and, IMO, gives them encouragement.

I am really very proud of this team. They could've gone down the same road the Redskins and Browns are on. They could've mickey-moused the team like the Bucs are doing. They could've publicly had their GM or owner criticize the team as the Chargers and Titans have had. But they didn't. They had faith in the belief that when everyone pulls together, does the very best they can and has fun playing, they will win. They have faith in their coach.

And, therefore, I do too.

If Fox is gone he doesn't have to worry about next year. he will already be paid 5 million we owe him on the last year of his contract. If he doesn't get a HC job in 2010 he will likely in 2011. He won't stay unemployed long assuming he is gone. If they play hard the rest of this year and win several at home, he may very well be here for his last year of the contract. Right now whether you like it not they have won 3 of their last 4 with 9 more to play. The fat lady ain't sung for sure.

He's a good coach, just not a good coach for us anymore. Sometimes you just have to move on to keep fresh.

Exactly.

At our current stage of development as an organization, we don't need a coach like Fox anymore. He was in my opinion incredible at building a team, filling it with studs, and becoming competitive with some of the best teams. He definitely has the opportunity to gain a reputation as a guy who can rebuild a team in the cellar. I could see him in a place like Seattle. He though isn't that great at consistency and aggressiveness.

Let's party

I'm really starting to realize Fox is a very good underratted coach. The more I think about it the more I think the biggest short coming on this team for a while is QB. What does every team (Patriots, Steelers, and Colts) that are consistent playoff contenders have? A franchise QB. Bill is the luckiest SOB every to get the greatest steal of all time in Brady but both Manning and Big Ben are 1st rounders. So is Rivers, Ryan, and Cutler. The vast majority of the real Franchise QB's were selected in the 1st round. I know it has the highest probability of failing but its just one of those things that has to happen to be a consistent team.

If he would have taken a chance of Flaco last year instead of blindly expecting your QB coming off major surgery to play the same and is on the decline of his career anyway we would be one of the best teams in the NFL. Like I said Fox is a very good coach but he is just to loyal to his players there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. If he changes this along with allowing his coordinators more control I would love to keep him.

I didn't make the original post to start a fire John Fox thread. The title was more in line with how the media went from "he could lose his job today" to "his loyalty paid off with a mediocre performance."

I like Coach Fox. He seems like a good guy and although I go crazy when I see the same mistakes over and over; I keep in mind that he has been very successful in job. I root for whoever we have in there but it doesn't mean I won't criticize. Its my duty as a customer and "Monday Morning Quarterback". Seems like Monday has turned into everyday now with the internet. They need to change that phrase.

I hope the Saints run D is as bad as advertised and we can pull of a repeat of what happened in AZ.

I wonder how Cleveland fans felt when New England hired Belichick.

IMO, being a great coach these days is as much luck as skill. Got to get lucky in your draft picks, especially with a QB. I wonder if Belichick would be thought of as a great coach if he had not used a 6th round pick to get some relatively unknown QB from Michigan?

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
