Odell COULD be dumb but not because of this. THIS is completely on NCAA.

No. If Odell did anything at all involving money and players on scholarship, he was foolishly risking the players eligibility, regardless of the fact the NCAA is a giant hypocritical scam.

He still knew the rules and took actions that would obviously create problems for others. That’s dumb regardless of ay other considerations.

you cant say "regardless of NCAA" the NCAA is the crux of the issue.

is giving money to someone else as a gift dumb in any other situation? No.

This is only dumb dumb in the context of NCAA not allowing players to earn ANY money.

this didnt happen in a vacuum.

If a rule is unlawful/unjust you 100% should be able to break it. Keeping people from making money while they work for you is....slavery.

There is the way things should be, and then there is the real world. Dumb is basing your actions entirely on the way things should be without accounting for the reality of the way things are.

Many states had laws against interracial relationships until recent generations. The laws were dumb, unjust, unreasonable, but if an interracial couple went strolling down the street holding hands and kissing while those laws were in effect, their behavior would still have been dumb.

so in your view people living back then shouldnt have loved who they loved based on that law?

there is our issue. you are ok calling those people dumb for just being in love and not pushing back on why you are even calling it dumb in the first place

Sure it didn't happen in a vaccum but if Odell knows giving money to those players creates negative consequences for them and does it anyway, his behavior is dumb regardless of how unjust, unreasonable and unfair the NCAA is, which btw, I agree completely on. Fug the NCAA.

But Odell is still being dumb.

im not going to blame Odell for this.

100% on NCAA because at the end of the day its the NCAA who are imposing these "negative consequences" its not a law. Its literally NCAA scamming these kids. There is no reason for it other than lining their pockets

No you're failing to understand or draw the distinction between someone's feelings and their behavior. People should always be free to love whomever they choose, but openly tempting hostile retaliation needlessly can be very dumb behavior. Nowhere have I advocated that people should change their feeling based on a bad law, they simply shouldn't engage in behavior that needlessly creates problems for themselves or others knowing the law is in place. The term for this is horse sense.

This isn't going anywhere. You're failing to acknowledge some basic things about logic and rhetoric. You are of course entitled to your views, but you're not going to convince me Odell's actions weren't ill advised. We already agree completely that the NCAA is a scam. Lets not drag this thread any more down a tangential rabbit hole.
