If we are rebuilding then I hope Boston gets the $8M. If Bradberry gets over $12M, that would net us a 3rd and 4th/5th. Throw in Addison, Butler, McCoy and Irvin and that could be another 4 picks in the 4th to 6th range. A few others could net 7th rounders.

For a rebuilding team that would be a massive haul of potential picks in 2021. Trade up a few times in day 3 and you’re still talking about 10-12 picks which is something we could use. Even if some bust, we need more darts. I went through SF’s drafts from 2014-2019 and they averaged 10-11 picks each draft and even though the fired the GM before Lynch (he’s run the last 3), they still drafted almost 5 players per draft that are still in the NFL from 2014-2017. Almost everyone from the past two are still playing. The first GM made a lot of bad picks but still got Kittle in the 5th and Trent Brown in the 7th. Easier to do that with a bevy of extra picks. Both of those guys were 1 of 2 picks SF had those rounds.

Give me all this.

However I don't trust this team to make the right calls.

Lol, yep. Even this draft scares me. We have three top 70 picks. Most teams in our rebuilding mode would expect that to net us 3 starters. I know the Hurney guys will tell us that even pick 38 might take a few years, but that’s BS. A top 40 pick should make an immediate impact. I have no faith that we’ll get more than 1 starter and that would be a travesty again.

Ha, there are very few "Hurney guys" around these parts any longer.  Two tours of him completely destroying the Panthers have finally soured on even our most "pro team" guys around here.

We absolutely NEED 3 if not 4 starters from this draft.  I'm trying to remember the last time we got that from a Hurney draft?

DEAL: S TRE BOSTON (3 YRS – $8M AVG/YR)

$12m guaranteed, $24m total

What is the deal with Boston not getting paid? Over the last three seasons, he ranks second in coverage grade among safeties and has played the fifth-most snaps of any safety in the NFL. Boston's 27 combined pass breakups and interceptions over those three seasons are fewer than only Kevin Byard, yet, the guy's last three contracts after his rookie deal have been three straight one-year deals, each worth less than $2.5 million. It just doesn't add up.

He has shown the coverage ability and instincts — like on the play above — to be a high-level player at one of the league's most important positions, but he hasn't been able to lock down a long-term deal at a reasonable salary to this point. Even three years, $24 million seems like a steal for opposing teams needing a free safety. Get this man the money he deserves, NFL.

I don't mind Boston getting his money but you got to think how many times he was flag for a late hit that extended drives for the other side.  I love the ruthless aggression he plays but he needs to be a tad more under control so he is not giving added down to the other side.

I feel like on one hand this article should be a light bulb for PFF to revaluate their grading system in light of it's obvious disconnect with how it values Boston vs NFL teams willingness to pay him, but then there's a thorn in the side of that view. They point out something that has nothing to do with their grade. No matter what you think of PFF or even Boston, objectively speaking for the guy who has the second most combined INT's and pass breakups over the last 3 seasons to be unable to secure any kind of market rate multi year deal is weird, especially since Boston has no off field issues and I think is generally regarded as a locker room positive.

Before reading this post I neither liked nor disliked Boston. Considered him serviceable and to have improved since his early years with us. Is there some huge weakness in his game that PFF is overlooking? Because they kind of seem to have a point on the face of it.

Does come up with the untimely late hit too many times.  Or the violence of his hits he gets called for leading with the head.  I hope he learns to play a little more under control if they give him this deal.  I think the money is appropriate for what he gives us.

I'm not so confident in that. Marty Hurney is at the helm. One of his favorite things to do is overpay his own free agents.

Actually he is getting 12 million right off the top and the other 12 million is cap.  That would put him at 4 million a year for 3 years.  If I am wrong let me know.  Cap stuff I am not too up on.

If he plays like he did at the end of the year hes easily worth 8m per, pay the man, that's a bargain especially with his locker room presence. He played some single high and actually did well. He also isnt a horrible tackler but as a FS his ball skills are the most important unless it's a broken play and hes forced to make a tackle. Reid is the safety that needs to improve his tracking instead of blowing people up as he plays further foward often. Tre is the one that can blow people up over the middle if the angle is there.
