Exactly. All this talk about the Panthers blowing it with Newton so we get nothing for him belies the elephant in the room. No one wants to trade for Newton at this point. We would be lucky to get a 4th rounder at best. He is damaged goods and no one trusts him to stay healthy let alone pay big bucks for him. We tried to trade him for the past few months and no one wanted him. He will get released and perhaps someone picks him up but who wants that 21 million salary? He might get a 1 year prove it deal for 10-15 million but that is it .

You do understand that the steps/rules  taken for the corona virus by the nfl  have impacted things a bit with free agents  coming off injury

the panthers did nothing to help this situation

not trying to poke anyone in the eye

Sure glad we dodged that bullet.  Just no way I'd want to do an extension for someone who is constantly injured and that's probably why there is no trade value.

There was no trade value because they publically advertised they had no interest in retaining him and they signed another QB before they tried to trade him. The team was not straight forward in any of their plans. They forced Cam and Olsen out. The fact that they have been so covert through all this makes it worse. That team is nothing but strangers to me now from top to bottom.

The only thing required for Cam to have "trade value" is a situation where 2 teams (or more) believe he could materially improve their quarterback situation for a fair price.

Apparently 1 team, or less, feel he can really help them out.

There have been rumors that Cam was getting traded for months. That means he was shopped as soon as they said he was healthy to avoid an injury settlement and keep the notion of a trade alive.

An qb that has been injured a lot over the last two years and is in the last year of his contract doesn't have much trade value to begin with.

That ended up so bad when we did it last time

this dumb response was so laughably predictable

Last time we had a franchise QB. This team can't afford to start "building the roster the right way" without a legitimate centerpiece at the only position that really matters.

the best part will be the "I can't believe we wasted another great player's career" when he retires.

"I just don't dont understand, we ran the ball and stopped the run effectively, how did this happen?" they'll say.

    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
    • She kicked ass. Obviously not the same but it’s an absolute pleasure to see this band live. What a great evening.
