Rumor: Panthers Interested in Acquiring Haason Reddick

Recommended Posts

Cardinals declined LB Haason Reddick's fifth-year team option for 2021.

Reddick has impressively played in all 48 possible games with Arizona since joining the team as the No. 13 overall pick in the 2017 draft. Envisioned as an Isaiah Simmons-type of hybrid player, 25-year-old Reddick most recently logged 472 snaps as an inside linebacker and 137 along the edges as an outside linebacker in 2019. Simmons' arrival allows for a number of intriguing defensive packages this upcoming year if DC Vance Joseph is willing to be progressive before Reddick becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2021. The latter will make $4.28 million in what will likely be his final season with the Cards.

It makes no sense to trade someone if you have to pay their salary while on another team. According to Sportrac, Miami’s dead cap for Minkah was only the rest of his signing bonus they had prorated for 2019-2021. It didn’t include any of the salary Pittsburgh is paying. It was a deal for Pittsburgh aside from the pick because for 3 years they pay $6M and Miami had to pay $10.4M for 1 year because of the signing bonus.

I don't think they have to pay it, it just counts against their salary cap.

Not really, it just makes me more concerned for the future about him pursuing "safety blanket" guys.

I don't see what Rhule is doing as any different from any other coach. They all want guys that they are familiar with and or knows their system and philosophies and guys that have already, are ready and willing to buy in. I say that we give our new coach a chance to build his vision,  before making verbal attempts to discredit his process without cause. Let's see what he puts on the field, how it looks and how he adjust...

Not an invalid point but the history of college coaches doing the same has not been as kind. In fairness, Rhule seems to be a lot less invested in his old players than say, Chip Kelly or Steve Spurrier were.

Arizona takes a lot of these positionless players and they generally fail to use them correctly.

Let’s see if they can figure it out with Simmons or if he will be another casualty of trying too hard to change tried and true football.
