Schefter: Revenue loss could potentially lead to lower salary cap

I heard a little bit of commentary on this, and apparently there are provisions in the CBA that would allow them to do this.

Doesn't seem like all that probable an outcome overall, but apparently it's possible.

Me getting laid by Jennifer Lopez is possible but not probable. Same with lowering NFL player contracts across the board. Owners would face player work stoppage, then everybody loses.

If they signed a CBA that allows for it, they may not have much to stand on.

Under that situation, I could honestly see some star players saying "See ya in '22 then!" and some aging stars simply hanging up the cleats a year early.

Bad, but as ridiculous as it may be, the NFL losing money is something I imagine all the owners considering so unthinkable that they might consider extremes.

Mind you, I'm not predicting this happens, but I'm not completely discounting it either.

So the Teams fill rosters with replacements and ratings and revenue sink further.

I'm not sure if the owners would see it that way. I think they feel like the NFL shield will sell the games no matter what. And ya know what? They might be right, especially in a temporary situation.

...or one where people are starved for sports.

The key might be if college football is played and a lot of NFL stars sat it out. In that situation, I could definitely see NFL viewership suffering with major college football being the primary beneficiary.
