Pick your GOAT: Luke, 89 or...

So we go to the superbowl without the nfl mvp... get out of here with that nonsense.

Where Cam is on the list is totally dependent on your definition of GOAT.

Relative to their position, kind of like Hall of Fame criteria, top two are easily Luke and Pep, both are players that you can argue are top 3 of their position overall.  Steve Smith you could make a good argument top 10 receiver of all time.  Not many people are going to argue Cam is top 10 QB of all time.

If you are talking most important player relative to wins and losses, its Cam easily.

how the frump can the ONLY caronlina panther to win an NFL mvp be barely in the conversation? People love to say quarterback is the most important position until it comes to Cam.. guy carried the offense single handedly most of his career and IS the alltime leading rushing touchdown leader at position. Barely in the conversation?

Dude, Rich Gannon won an MVP.

And? Trai Turner made a bunch of pro bowls.... we know how bad he looked after his rookie and second season... luke made a ton of pro bowls if thats what were judging this on? MVP is a better indication of level of play than pro bowls.

Pretty sure stats are. Awards don't mean jack.

Are people really trying to argue on here that Luke wasn't head and shoulders the best middle linebacker we've ever had? We've had some great mlbs no doubt. But even considering Luke's abbreviated career, he had an sustained peak of excellence that Beason and Morgan didn't come close to. If you COMBINED Beason and Morgan's career numbers, they have about the same number of tackles with fewer sacks and interceptions. And ignoring the longevity, Luke's absolute peak was clearly better. He was a frickin defensive player of the year. Few players in history can say that. He was a 5 time 1st team all-pro. Morgan and Beasley combined for 1. No disrespect to the other two guys who were both phenomenally talented, but Luke is in a league of his own.

As far as the GOAT, you could make an argument for anyone really. I have a bit of a tough time giving it to Peppers because he spent a good amount of his peak years away from Carolina and even when he was here, there was often a question of his effort and consistency, albeit probably largely unfair. Luke is a solid choice for the above reasons, although his shortened career diminishes his position. Steve Smith was incredible for many years and spent most of his career with the Panthers, but he also didn't often get mentioned regularly in the best wr conversation during his time. As evidence, he only made 1st team all pro once as a wide reciever in his entire career (the one year he achieved the receiving triple crown). He made 4 pro bowls which seems like a low number for a GOAT. Granted he was underappreciated but the underwhelming accolades still should count for something. As far as Cam goes, he's our only MVP, redefined the qb position with an unstoppable dual threat game at his peak, single handedly carried our offense to greatness several times in his career, and made us super bowl favorites in a game everyone expected us to win. He's brought down by injuries marring his last couple years and inconsistencies particularly with his throwing accuracy.

I'd personally lean towards Kuechly having spent his entire career with the Panthers and during the vast majority of that time being the best player in the league at his position. But I wouldn't fault anyone for arguing for someone else.

and cam's stats when healthy were right along the lines of brett farve and some of the other goats....

"when healthy"

LOL.

Favre played 302 regular season games, Cam only played 125.

It's foolish to mention them in the same sentence...in no way comparable.

Yes when on pace.. which isnt that far off. If cam continues his career and retires at 41 like farve did it would be almost the exact same. Stop being a hater.

Nobody lobbied more than me for the Panthers to bring Cam back this season — stick your hater talk in your ear.

That said, facts are facts.

Do you really believe Cam has a chance of playing another 10 years in The League?
