Agreed. It isn't a good start when the biggest reason why you don't make those kind of offers happened immediately.

There's a common saying among personnel people that you never let a guy you wanna keep get to the final year of his contract. We went off a little earlier than that (insert joke here).

Me being a big Marty detractor, I could certainly hammer him for that, but I'm gonna wait to see how this plays out instead. Nothing's guaranteed at this point.

Bad start though? Yeah. That's valid.

Good. CMC needs to be done for the season. Playing him at this point is all risk and no reward.

100% agree. We are “technically” not out but unless an honest to goodness football miracle happens, we are already done. Risking any type of reinjury to CMC when there is no personal or team reason to play is just plain dumb. Coming off that many missed games is a recipe for reinjury.

You realize the closer you get to the end of the contract the more leverage the player has.  Plus the market will rise as well.

I've never been a cap guy but aren't they able to spread the contract out for 6 year. (2 years on existing contract and 4 year extension)

You let guys like Fournette walk instead of giving him a top tier RB salary.  CMC is two players in one.  He makes an offense extremely difficult to stop.

The injuries this year make everyone second guess but as long as he comes back next year and performs to expectations all will be forgotten. The ankle and the quad injury don't worry me too much but I am slightly concerned that the shoulder could be re-occuring.

I believe it was the right decision.  You can't expect to be a top tier team if you expect to pay all your players medium range salaries.  You have to pay elite salaries to elite players.  CMC is elite and will come back in 2021 and prove it.

What was his leverage after last season?   This should be good.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
