I am lucky enough to be old enough to have seen him hit #715 on TV.  One of those moments in sports that you never forget.

I agree, Scot, he will always be the home run king in my mind.  He was a class act.  He exemplified the rare quality of humility.

RIP.

I remember that. It was a Monday Night Football game, and every time Aaron came to bat, they switched  to that game.

Pitcher was Al Downing.

He gave up 714 in Cincinnati to Jack Billingham.

I was a kid, an avid Reds fan, but I loved Aaron and followed his quest to brake Babe's record from when he had about 650--he was on the cover of Boy's Life mag. and my uncle had a copy.

I remember that game as well.  I don't remember how old I was but I know I loved watching him play.  RIP to a legend.

    • Give him QBs to work with next season. Imagine Canales and this group of playmakers with a QB like Cam or any top tier QB. Our offense would be lights out. We arent being held back by Canales. We are being held back by not having a decent QB. Our QBs have limited abilities so Canales has to have a limited playbook to suit them. I want to see him get a chance with a good QB
    • If he had Jayden Daniels, Rico Dowdle AND Fred Warner at his disposal, yeah, maybe. The talent disparity doesn't get enough attention when we discuss Canales and I say that as someone who has been critical of some of his in-game and pre-game coaching decisions.
    • If Ron had been given Bryce as his QB what happens though?  And Ron had an excellent track record as DC and had run the 34 and the 43 both successfully in the league. He had some really good defenses.  Add in, how did he do under Tepper with a damaged Cam? it isn’t really close to a fair comparison.  Ron wasn’t a great HC either he was a guy that knew defense and had a great QB dumped in his lap.    As far as some of the other stuff in the thread I was hot about him not being suave with Rico but he has taken action, and people have pointed out decent reasons for being 2 games slow to make the change. And we won one of them.    I don’t know I have cooled off since Sunday and I wasn’t moved straight to fire him level of dissatisfaction, just decidedly unhappy with him.    I don’t really have a strong opinion either way but do think he was given a no win situation with Bryce. And he hasn’t done horribly with that aspect of it, given the unreasonable expectations of the assignment. It is the NFL version of a suicide mission.
