Brown among top rookies

All 2009 pre draft we heard our glaring need was DE/DT. We got a #1 in the second round. Sure we gave up or 2010 #1 pick and it stings. Brown if I recall was only a junior and had another year in college had he wanted it. Wonder how excited everyone would be if we took Brown in 2010 1st round? There is no guarantee that we would take a QB with the 1st pick. The only difference is we got him a year early. A year to develop. If we lose Peppers this offseason then the gamble will pay off. It was a gutsy move and this offseason will tell.

We have a ton of second guessers but I wonder how many of you would have had the balls to pull it off. Brown will be a star in this league.

I don't understand why they didn't draft Michael Johnson instead of Brown. While Brown is a tough player, he's a bit of a runt to be playing DE, especially on a team which struggles against the run. Johnson on the other hand is very athletic and really reminded me of Peppers heading into the draft. Instead of someone molded like Peppers, who could potentially be instructed by and learn technique from the pro-bowler, we picked up Brown who doesn't really fit in to what we need in a 4-3 system.

non-stop motor.

I also wanted TJ Lang that has started multiple postions this year on the Packers and is doing well. http://www.carolinahuddle.com/forum/the-nfl-draft/11174-jramsey4s-mock.html

He have played pretty shitty the times I have been seeing him. In very few snaps he have allowed 5 sacks and 6 QB hurries.

In fact he have allowed either a sack or a pressure on every 16 snap.. To compare Otah gives a sack or a pressure on every 91 snap:)

Don't look now, but Brown has 11 tackles, one sack, and a pair of forced fumbles. That may not seem like much, but only two defensive linemen from his rookie class are doing better. Michael Johnson has 13 tackles and a sack for the Bengals, and Roy Miller has 21 tackles and two sacks for the Bucs. Neither have the competition for playing time that Brown does either.

Ever stop to think that maybe Hurney knows what he's doing? :)

We have a top 5 defense, a top 5 OL, the best running attack in football, and we are 4-5. Ever stop to think that Hurney probably should have thought about QB?

Good job there of comparing a 4th rounder playing on a shitty line to a 1st rounder playing on an all-pro line (and in his second year). He is a Rookie and he played against lower level competition in college it will take him time to develop to the speed of the NFL. He is a hell of athlete that they have moved around all over there line which is why I wanted him in the 1st place he has tremendous versaltility. I have read that there front office believes he is there future at LT. BTW where on Earth did you go to school?

we could have traded for culter or sanchez! they sure wouldnt turn the ball over like jake............ wait.........:willy_nilly:

the whole qb youth movement failed 2 years ago with david carr. we tried to get a qb, we got a shell shocked, glove wearing, carpet bagger.he was here for the money not to play.

what is more disturbing, the patchwork interior line is still a peice of poo. they may have been screwing around with the qb of the future poo for awhile now, but they let the interior line depth go to total poo. kemo went down and anyone including a fb can run on us.

brown helps the pass rush for sure, but dammit i wanted that 1st rounder to patch up the interior line. charles johnson and brayton can hold the fort down on the ends if peppers went down without brown here, but without kemo (or hell lewis) we had zero depth at dt. now this year is loaded at DT and we dont have a 1st rounder. suh was never gona happen unless he left last year, but mccoy (stretch), jones, austin (if he comes out), and cody might have been possible.

i like brown, but i still question if the cost to get a good DE this year is worth passing up on the DTs in the upcoming draft.

EDIT: and yes i understand that DT dont develope as quickly as DE. generally it takes a year or 2. but we are putting of the DT stuff just like the QB. for a physical minded team, we have a soft interior line that has been getting gashed way to often.

Going into preseason, we had Jake Delhomme, Josh McCown, and Matt Moore. Delhomme was coming off a great 2008 season, with a meltdown in the playoffs that was arguably just as much about playcalling as anything. McCown has good starting experience, and Moore was getting another chance at being our future QB. We also added Cantwell to the roster.

Given that we had no chance to draft a QB high, and that Cutler was way too expensive given our situation with Peppers, what would you have Hurney do? It's not like he can go to the QB store and get a new one on a whim, even QBs at Jake's level are hard to find.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
