Jack Eichel

No rumors linking the Canes, just posting for discussion. Sounds like Eichel is on his way out of Buffalo. To me, this is the type of move we need to make to take the next step. Eichel is a point per game center and was the captain of an admittedly underachieving team.

We're most likely losing Dougie, and Eichel could effectively replace Trocheck. From a salary perspective it would be a pretty even swap. So then you can weigh the cost to acquire. I would offer up 1st + Trocheck + Skjei + Ryan Suzuki. Possibly swap Skjei for another 1st if needed. Something along those lines.

Thoughts?

Those are some interesting trade swaps that just might succeed. Like always, salaries would be paramount in any trade or swap.

His injury concerns me and I'm not sure his contract makes sense for us. Phenomenal player and having 1a and 1b centers of Eichel and Aho would be insane. But I'd rather we just stay the course and develop our own prospects/young players and continue to make shrewd deals like the Trocheck and Nino deals.

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
