What if the Panthers drafted Chris Johnson instead of Johnathan Stewart?

We drafted Stewart at 13th. Johnson went at 24th. Many would say we could have the best tandem in the league by far (i think we already do). But if you look at it, It would never work. Johnson hated splitting carries with White. Which is why you barely see him now. It would be a blow up waiting to happen. I'll give Hurney some credit on this pickup.

thoughts?

That pick pissed me off more than trading next years #1 pick next year for Brown. Draft class was deep in RB and we picked Stewart 13th. Could have taken a quality RB later in the 2nd and 3rd round and saved a draft pick.

how many of those backs are doing good this year? Rice and Mendenhall

We needed a tough short yardage runner, not an explosive option. I still don't believe we have seen a 100% healthy Stewart in the NFL to this point, but even from what we have seen he's an absolute stud. Williams gets the rock between the twenties on first and second down and Stewart gets the short stuff and goal line packages. There couldn't be a more even way to handle these two guys.

If there is one thing that Fox and Davidson have perfected, it has been the two running back system. Neither player is hurting for carries and both players are being utilized for exactly what they are best at doing. You couldn't have custom made two guys with a better attitude to split carries than Stewart and Williams. They both respect what the other has to offer and they both celebrate the success of the other and do not resent the need for the other to exist.

I think we should look at Stewart and feel VERY fortunate that we didn't draft a kid with poor character that couldn't stomach the idea of not being the guy who gets the rock on every down. Stewart and Williams both know the advantage of having 15 carries while you're fresh and have your legs as opposed to getting 30 carries while grabbing your knees.

The absolute ideal running game perfected by two skill sets that compliment each other greatly.

    • I wouldn’t disagree with that.
    • I would say the fact that Dave Canales insisted on a 6 year contract should tell anyone all they need to know about his potential job security under the Tepper's. No matter how much we have heard recently about how David Tepper has learned from this and that. This is still the same man who spent $43.5 million to buy and then immediately demolish a house because of who owned it previously.
    • Same lineup to hopefully finish this one out tonight.  Here's today's projected lineup from the Hurricane's official website:   Tonight's Projected Lineup... Forwards Svechnikov - Aho - Jarvis Hall - Stankoven - Blake Ehlers - Staal - Martinook Carrier - Jankowski - Robinson Defense Slavin - Chatfield Miller - Walker Gostisbehere - Nikishin Starting Goaltender Andersen --- Injuries N/A Scratches Nicolas Deslauriers Pyotr Kochetkov Jesperi Kotkaniemi Mike Reilly --- PP1: Aho, Ehlers (Staal), Jarvis, and Svechnikov with Gostisbehere PP2: Blake, Hall, Jankowski, and Stankoven with Miller I'm getting to the point to where I have to get away from social media.  The narrative is still in some circles that Carolina has played no one.  I just don't see how you can continue to discount what our opponents in the playoffs have done, either to make it to the playoffs or the clubs they beat to faceoff against us.  I know this is how Carolina always get's treated, but if we win tonight our record is 12-1 in the playoffs. 12-1!  Meanwhile, along the way the "talking heads" had us losing in every round.  Maybe, just maybe, Carolina's just that damn good. /rant Here's to kickin azz and taking names tonight. LET'S GO CANES!!
