So you structure guys contracts where the big money starts in 2023? Give them big signing bonuses with voidable years on the back end and make the actual cap hit for the first year manageable for the team.

I was already considering that. Out of curiosity how much do you think a premiere pass rusher and a #1 CB will cost even considering this structure? I’m already assuming Jackson is gone…hopefully by tag and trade.

I’d wager at least 20 mil of that 30. And that’s generous. That’s if they’re ok helping the team out.

With draft picks and resigning a couple other FA’s we need from the team already, that 30 is gone.

Now of course there will be some fat to cut and shaq restructure needs to happen. No way he is worth close to 20 mil.

But keep in mind this assumes they roll with Darnold and don’t pay any other qb a dime. This also does not address the oline at all. I don’t think we will be big players in FA at all.

Yea…all I’m saying is get ready for another meek off-season and be realistic.

    • People apparently forgot that offseason. Stafford and wife met with McVay in Mexico the offseason he moved. McVay convinced him to leave. Stafford went to the Lions and had a very emotional meeting in which he said he wanted to leave. They obliged based on his time there and the compensation offered(which included Goff). It was a very amicable split. People in Detroit still revere him to this day. He has been open about his affinity for them, as well.
    • going from High school to the pros would be incredibly easy
    • Smitty was a 3rd rounder.  I’m not really saying draft one high at all, 3rd being higher than I have in mind for this year. I am completely with the people that say ‘enough’ high picks on “weapons for Bryce”. Enough of that. Don’t want a weapon drafted early, Yet Again.  For that matter I wish we weren’t forced to address LOT because I want linebackers and big guys. And OL depth in the mid to late rounds. Maybe some late insurance at RB. A QB if the right one is begging for us to snap him up.    But looking at the WR room and believing Moore is sort of redundant or maybe even not a great fit,  and then just recalling the numerous calls for a burner, I was only really saying what I think would be the best type of addition.
