The notion of building the defense first is a flawed concept rooted in nostalgia.

You start with the lines, picking the best available lineman (offensive or defensive) as your picks come across.

Being strong on both lines is a guarantee your team will be at least decent.  It's not sexy but it gets the job done.  The foundation that the rest of your offense / defense is built on.   Don't skimp on this.

Building defense first is always the way to be a championship team.

Building around 4 defensive players that are top level leaders is the key. Investing everything in a defense without a core 4 to anchor the defense is a recipe for disaster. Panthers are the later. No true defensive leader and they didn't build around Chinn to develop him. Not to mention moving him out of his strongest position. Shaq is a great player, but he is not a core player to build around.

Yeah, the weather for that game had nothing to do with that choice of game-plan, right?

The Bills knew the Patriots were going to run.  The fans in the stadium knew the Patriots were going to run.  Every person watching TV in America knew the Patriots were going to run.  And the Bills couldn't stop it.   Three, four, five yards every carry.   Time after time after time.

That's imposing your will upon the other team.

All of that was the result of great roster building, a great gameplan considering the weather and great execution by the players.  It's what good coaches do.

They should've gotten a FS to play beside him or just left him at LB. He was a force last year and I have hardly noticed him this year. He is not a FS.

Just right now, we sent the SS in with the LBs and Chinn backing up. It's been like this all year. So fuging stupid.
