REPORT: Steve Reed reports "the Panthers are still interested in" Jimmy Garoppolo

There are several. Here's one:

Back when Brady was a free agent two years ago he wanted to join up with the 49ers. They were his first choice before the Buccaneers ended up winning his favor. Alas, the 49ers elected not to pursue Brady after consideration. They decided that sticking with Jimmy Garoppolo, fresh off of a Super Bowl appearance, was the best move for them going forward.

It's one reason why many believe the "y'all are gonna stick with that motherf--ker" comment was referencing the 49ers and Garoppolo.

So we have an opportunity to get a QB that the 9ers considered better than Brady?

What does that fuging matter?

Why does it matter?  They were no longer interested in playing for their teams so they traded them for a return while they could.  Why would a team want a QB playing for them that isn't interested?  That's much different than a team telling a QB in his prime, they are no longer interested in him playing for their franchise and trying to trade him (with no results so far).  That's basically what we did with Teddy.  Do you think the Lions or Seahawks would have traded 3 first rounders to move up and take a QB then randomly put Stafford/Russ on the trade block?  ESPN and us fans would be so confused.  The Niners did it and no one batted an eye because we all know Jimmy G was their weakness.  Elite defense, strong running game and then your QB keeps throwing INTs in the playoffs.  Hmmm what can they do to make this team better???

From your article:

While it was never totally clear who he referenced, you can't rule out that he was talking about Garoppolo and the 49ers since they were ones Brady was looking to sign at.

This is an opinion piece written by 9ers beat reporter addressing the rumors that Brady is considering coming out of retirement for the 9ers. He has no sources with Brady, and no evidence and admits that he doesn't know.  In fact he went on to write:

Ultimately, I believe Brady is done.

Yeah the NIners picked "that motherf******" and the following year were trading up in the draft to replace him while Brady won a championship.  We had an opportunity to sign Mitch, a QB that the Bears drafted over Mahomes and Watson.  These are mistakes made by teams...

Cause they're good.  Ask Green Bay.

Are you talking about before or after they held an emergency meeting with the front office and Rodgers, restructured his contract, gave him the input he had been wanting then signed him to a huge contract he was wanting?  That's just GB making it right and giving him what he wanted.  Rodgers wants to be there now.

I'm confused.  I thought teams didn't make mistakes and if we can get JimmyG its because he sucks.

JimmyG>>>>Sam.  We will win more games with Jimmy.

You thought teams didn't make mistakes?  Jimmy G isn't that good and that's why he is STILL available and the Niners have been so eager to replace him.  Jimmy is better than Sam.  I agree with you there.  We can sign Foles right now as a FA who is better than Sam.  That's an extremely low bar to have...

No you do.  The 9ers overpaid for Lance and are now committed to him as their starting QB.  Jimmy wants to start so they're going to let him go.

Jimmy was 9th in PR (ahead of Mahomes) and 13th in QBR (one spot behind Burrow) last year.  Hes a good QB.  Sam is not.

We win more games with Jimmy.

If you think he is good that’s your opinion. I’ve seen him when his running game isn’t going and they need to use his arm and it’s gets bad. Check those stats for the postseason and watch what happens to them. It’s easy to dink and dunk when you have a great defense and the running game is going great. When they needed his arm he isn’t able to get the job done. It’s very similar to Teddy with the Vikings. I’d rather roll with Corral and if he isn’t the answer then draft one next year. If you want to try to trade for or sign another team’s cast off for the 3rd year in a row, then hopefully 3rd times a charm. I just don’t see it…

QBR has Tannehill and Wentz in the top 10 over him. These guys are behind great running offenses. When the games on the line they have proven they can’t get it done.

Jimmy G - Average Intended Air Yards per pass attempt

2021- 29th

2020 - 40th

2019 - 37th

He is the king of checkdown offense.  It’s why the 49ers gave up 3 first round picks for a Trey Lance.  If Jimmy G was good….Trey Lance wouldn’t be in SF.  Especially not for 3 first round picks.

We could of just kept Teddy this entire time.  Saved a bunch of draft picks.

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
