Why so much optimism for Corral?

Traits are great but can you play? I care about that. If he can't show it in TC AND the preseason then he is just a developmental guy with little chance of being a star player.

He needs to be on the bench if he can't beat Mayfield and ESPECIALLY if he can't beat Darnold.

This is the wrong take and I see stuff like this a lot on here from other posters too, how do you think 3rd and 4th round players, much less QBs can breakout if not for traits? Dak had the #1 pocket presence in his draft despite being the 8th or so QB drafted, ended up that trait translating, it's something he also has in common with Matt Corral. Matt Corral also has other traits that remind you of elite passers.

No one is saying that he will put it altogether but that's why he IS drafted in the third round, also there were two vet QB's available and no NFL team felt rushed to get all pretty similar prospects in so far as question marks.

Because people want him to come in and save the franchise and disregard any kind of logic that says the odds and stacked against him. Or just be ok if he is a decent backup. This team still desperately needs a blue chip talent and until it takes its lumps and stop fuging going over retreads clawing at 5-8 win seasons, it will never happen.

    • Nfl leaders don't look at the population of just the city itself.  Charlotte has three of the top fifty combined statistical areas within a 1 to 1.5 hour drive.  Charlotte, Greensboro/WS/High Point, and Greenville Spartanburg.  Those three statistical areas include nearly 7 million people.  Other than Raleigh, the only one in the top fifty within an hour and half of raleigh is Greensboro.  So only about 4-5 million people.  Charlotte has many more people to draw from.   Also, many of the surrounding communities for Raleigh are not native born.  If memory serves, many still refer to Cary as Containment area for relocated Yankees.  One of the reasons the Canes do so well is a significant portion of the population are people who moved from Northern Areas.  Would that population translate into support for a NFL team?  Hard to say, but I see a tremendous amount of Giants/Jets jerseys in the triangle when I forced to endure the crazy traffic on 40/85.
    • This will also be prime Training Camp meltdown time on here lol. Preseason game 1 August 8th, i'm guessing camp starts around July 25-27th
