Couldn’t find crap outside of one rookie minicamp video where he mentions getting back in football shape and the long way to go comments from McAdoo and Rhule. Everything else is from training camp. That one minicamp video was quoted in every article I searched for in May/June so the search wasn’t fruitful. I distinctly remember a little more discussion that made me understand not just giving him the starting position day 1 in OTAs. I didn’t doubt he would get it, just not handed to him, which sure wasn’t going to worry me. I mean we had people in here throwing the towel in on him saying he’ll be a LG and here we are after preseason game 1 and he’s named the starting LT just like some of us fully expected him to be.

Nobody questioned that he would win the job.

What annoys people is that being a rookie, he'd need as many snaps as possible to get up to speed in the pros at his chosen position.

Putting him in a phony competition denies him beneficial reps (same as with Mayfield).

I get disagreeing and such. I don't get people who literally think they are better at this as people who havent any experience than professionals nfl coaches like Campen who also played.

Well 2 things…

1.  This is a sports message board on the internet.  This is simply what has always happened and always will.

2.  People question Rhule.  And rightfully so.  Because no one thinks the micromanaging hot seat coach is going to defer everything to people he doesn’t know well with his job and reputation on the line.  Campen seems like a solid young coach. He also hasn’t held down a job anywhere for more than a year.  I doubt Rhule is like, whatever you think is best, I’ll be over here.

Unnecessary because we had actual NFL coaches...

So James Campen isn't a actually NFL coach??

Oh and even in Rivera 1st 2 season nobody was talking about reps??

When actually "NFL coach" Geroge Seifert wasn't showing up for practice and bailed on the team.. Nobody talk about reps..

But I'll wait on the reps studies some of you are doing and hope to see a scientific conclusion to all this hard work..

yeah, people never bitched about Marty or Ron or Fox or Shula or Davidson or anyone else.  Never blasted their roster management, game day handling, tendencies, drafting, free agency, manner on the sidelines,  etc.

It’s just all unique Matt Rhule treatment that has never been seen before.

Campen has been a Oline coach for 20 years.. He has more experience then Rhule.. And he isn't Young.

Do you have Campen mixed up with someone else? He was O-line coach for the Packers for 10 years

Did they bitch about reps?? I don't remember the 2011 uproar over Clausen getting more reps then Cam at the start of TC.. Do you ??

I understand not trusting Rhule's "process " and results.. But we've never complained so much about practice habits and reps of any other coach..

And Seifert last year has stories of him not even showing up to practice..

Do you even huddle bro?

you name it, it has been bitched about on here.

and yes, people bitched about Clausen “starting” over Cam in the preseason.  Because they watched the 2010 season.

and they 100% bitched about Ron waiting so late to actually name Cam as the starting QB for the season.

this Matt Rhule is being treated uniquely unfair is fan fiction. We have always been crazy here about the Panthers.

And there are some of us rational fans who question the bitching all the time.. Especially when history shows that reps haven't determined much before as well..

I huddled more then most..

And 400 yards 3 it's later all those Clausen reps meant what exactly..

And still it wasn't this big of a conversation..

    • I believe I just read somewhere that the Rams don't do Top 30 Visits. I mean, it makes sense from the standpoint of trying to keep information close to the vest.
    • I'm not sure 19 is too high for Rodriguez anymore.  He looks to be moving up boards, but it could be smokescreens.
    • I see XL this way---great athlete.  Good person.  When we drafted him, we knew he was raw.  One year of WR in college (starting) and in HS, he was a QB, I believe. We knew we would need patience with him.  I think year 3 will be make or break.  He is older, and I think that people with his athletic ability have always been better than those with less---but those with less can become more successful.  Why is that?  in my view, it is mental. XL can learn the mechanics and nuances of playing WR if he becomes focused on it and works at it.  I had the opportunity to talk to Armanti Edwards one day after OTAs (great guy) and he discussed how overwhelming it was.  He seemed shocked.  At that time, I knew that Fox hated the pick (I heard him mock Armanti to another coach when he saw Edwards drop a punt from a jugs machine--then I saw Armanti look back at Fox as if to suggest that he was feeling the pressure to please the coach. We forget that these are kids in their early 20s.  At the time, Fox was a lame duck.  Remember when he had Clausen as the #3 QB and was forced to move him up the ladder?  I liked Fox, but I think the climate and culture was influenced by the politics.  Currently, I see another Wr from SC who is struggling, but he is ina  very nurturing, positive culture. Let's see what happens with XL.  I am frustrated too---but XL was a second round talent who was raw and we traded up to get him.  He had 500 yards as a rookie--lets call 2025 a sophomore slump and see if we can't get at least 50 yards per game out of him.  If not, cut bait.
