He may benefit from a complete derth of quality FA QB's next offseason. Outside MAYBE Lamar Jackson, there is no high caliber FA QB in 2023.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him with a shorter term but expensive contract. Provided he plays well this season, of course.

At the same time there doesn't seem to be a bunch of teams desperate for a FA starter next year. Bucs/Giants/Lions/Seahawks? 2-3 of those might say fug it and rebuild after this year

It depends, Miami could sour on Tua, Ravens could decide to let Lamar go, Steelers may decide they don't have their guy, Texans may move on from Mills, Eagles may decide none of their QB's is the guy, Washington may decide none of their QB's are the guy, Chicago may get cold feet on Fields, Falcons may decide they need a QB, Saints DO need a QB.

Those are all situations that aren't that far from changing in the next season.

Actually if Baker plays well, and we decided to resign him, those QB moves would probably bring down the non elite QB market. Again, good for us.

It could bring it down or it could make it rise. It depends on which dominoes fall and what the market is for each of the QB's that is now out of a job. For the most part, the bulk of those QB's wouldn't be viewed very favorably by the NFL as a whole.

Good point. I was thinking more about that supposedly deep QB class. Some of those guys seem to have great potential. I could see a team balking at Mayfield and going with one of these rookies.
