THE QUICK HITS:

Last Time Out: For a third consecutive game the Canes found a way to earn a win after regulation on Thursday, taking a 4-3 shootout victory from the Tampa Bay Lightning. After a strong start and an early goal from Seth Jarvis, Carolina nearly gave the game away to the defending Eastern Conference Champions, allowing three goals in the second period. But thanks to the 14th point of the season from Martin Necas and a shorthanded, game-tying goal from Brady Skjei in the third, the team picked up a point. In the skills competition Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho emerged as heroes and Frederik Andersen stopped five out of six.

He's Not Slowing Down: Only 12 players in the NHL have more points than Martin Necas entering Friday's play. After a disappointing 2021-22 season, #88 has set the world on fire to start the first year of his new contract, averaging 1.40 points-per-game. His playmaking abilities have been on full display, but Thursday night it was a one-time howitzer from the circle on the power play that led him to the scoresheet.

Crazy 8's: Both Necas and Brent Burns enter Friday's contest on five-game point streaks. Last night Burns became the first defenseman 37 years of age or older to register such a streak in Whalers/Canes history. For Necas, it is his first career point streak of five games.

 

We Need More Time: Carolina's victory Thursday night was their fourth already this season decided in either overtime or a shootout (3-1). No team in the league has more.

 

Surging Svech:  Andrei Svechnikov remains tied for fourth in the NHL with his eight goals. Only Connor McDavid (11), Bo Horvat (10) and Erik Karlsson (10) have more at the moment.

 

We're Putting Pucks On: Last night Carolina had 55 shots on goal in their win over Tampa, the second most by any team in the NHL this season. That now moves them to third amongst all clubs in the league in terms of average per game, trailing only Florida (39.5) and New Jersey (39.1) with their 38.1.

 

We're Keeping Them Off, Too: On the other end of the spectrum, Carolina has allowed an average of just 26.2 shots through 10 games this season. Only the Devils (23.2) are allowing fewer.

 

Rotating To Raanta?: Given that it is seldom that Rod Brind'Amour turns to the same goaltender twice in two nights, tonight could be Antti Raanta's net. The 33-year-old is 2-0-1 in three starts this season with a .912 save percentage. He picked up a 26-save win over Philadelphia in his most recent outing, coming last Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center.

 

No Rest November: Tonight's contest is the second of 14 in the calendar month for Carolina. Eight will come on the road and six will take place at PNC Arena. Tonight is the conclusion of the first of three back-to-backs.

 

Injury Report: Forward Ondrej Kase has been in concussion protocol since October 13.

 

On The Other Side: When it comes to teams around the NHL that have caught some by surprise to start the season, the Buffalo Sabres are one of, if not the first team that comes to mind. Trailing only the red-hot 10-1 Boston Bruins in the Atlantic, the Sabres' youth has led the way. Tage Thompson had a stunning six-point performance earlier in the week, tying him for the team-lead in points with defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. The two young stars each have 14 points in 10 games.

AFTER TODAY:

The team is scheduled to have off on Saturday but will return to action on Sunday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. at PNC Arena.

      I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
