Jerrod Clark - 6'4 345 lb - Coastal Carolina

0 Tech and 1 Tech Nose Tackle with an 82 inch wing span who can push the line and reset the middle to help collapse the pocket. Isn't incredibly fast but with 33 7/8 inch arms, he will do exactly what you need for a nose in our new 3-4. Seeing as he should be available on Day 3, that's a huge value for a team making a scheme change.

Was initially recruited as a TE to Coastal before putting on 100 lbs. Knowing Jamie Chadwell, Clark probably could've cut it as a TE but they had also recruited Isaiah Likely (who we should've taken last year) who is now with the Ravens. So you get TE athleticism from a nose and as a Day 3 pick? Great opportunity to get one of those premier type 3-4 noses that make the Raven's and Buc's defenses so difficult.

Are we sure that we're moving to the 3-4 or is that just fan talk?

Numerous pundits have mentioned it. Evero seems to have only coached in 3-4 schemes so it stands to reason we would be making a change.

Poor timing if the FO thinks we are only a QB away because now you have to spend capital to get those key 3-4 positions. Clark is a huge bargain for what I think he will provide for whomever drafts him. Dude was a menace going against App State the past few years and App has put a few offensive linemen, and may put two more this year, into the NFL in that time.

The rumors of the 3-4 in Carolina have surfaced before, many times. They haven't panned out so far, so I'm going to do a wait and see thing here.

    • Pretty sure that a QB contract payday is all the competition any QB in this league needs, I don't think a competent backup is going to make them play any harder when the current situation wouldn't warrant the contract extension yet anyways. Your opening point in this post is also the problem, "Bryce has shown signs of improving", but that's still all he's shown, and he's only showing that because of just how bad he was to start his career. If he played like last season from the beginning and never improved one bit, then I actually think more fans would be ready to move on from him, which is what's weird.  It's like going from one of the biggest draft busts of all time into the 25th best QB in the league over 3 years means he deserves a long term $40+ million a year contract extension. Improvement shouldn't be the goal when the result of said improvement is still bottom of the league levels.
    • Yeah, but we've seen him do it. Just not often. I think that's the reason for the taller WRs. Would likely be a problem finding someone like Jimmy Horn in the mess.
    • And the Rams, Seattle, Patriots, Green Bay, Jaguars and the Bills who all made the playoffs and in case you forgot, Seattle and the Patriots played in the SB. By any measure, that's pretty brutal.
