Say the Bears go QB at #1 and trade Justin Fields...

Our scouts and Fitt didn't like Fields and passed on him. He hasn't done much since then. There is no way we want Fields. We're likely to take whichever QB falls to 9th out of the top 4 QB prospects imo. If CJ starts falling we are highly likely to jump in front of Atlanta to try and grab him. We don't want CJ going to Atlanta, and rumors are floating that we are high on CJ.

maybe.

But that ignores all the insanity they did pre-draft in regard to Sam Darnold when all the talk was there would be no QB available.

One of the main arguments during draft time is that they shouldn't let that Sam mistake cause them to make another one by passing up on the QB that actually did fall in their laps despite most not expecting it to happen.

There was also the Teddy nonsense of paying him millions to be the Broncos QB.

Rhule had made the QB a spot of a joke right before Fields landed in our laps.  I still think Rhule just made too many mistakes....and he refused to draw even more attention to how bad they were managing the roster at QB when Fields landed there.

and suddenly people are acting like the clownshow Matt Rhule wasn't calling the shots then.  It was the next draft where the power looked to shift from Rhule to Fitt.

Consider this recent quote from Fitt. "In an ideal world, we draft and develop our QB." He's also been using a lot of "go and get the QB you want in the draft.. trade up.. be confident" type of talk lately. Trading for Fields would really irritate me at this point.

I'm not advocating for trading for Fields.  I don't think they are trading him.  I largely was just commenting on the "they passed him for a reason" thought process.  We were lead by Matt Rhule then.  They ditched Teddy, paid millions for him to be Denver's QB, traded away draft picks for worse QB than Teddy and then pointlessly picked up his option.    Whatever the Rhule Panthers were doing around that time frame was idiotic IMO.    So it's hard to use them as a some source for there being something wrong w/ Fields.

I want Stroud and will green light something stupid to get him.  We aren't getting the top 2 QBs staying at 9.

Ok so you are in the "it was Rhule in charge of the draft" crowd. Ok fair enough. I never saw enough evidence for Rhule dominating the draft process, but he did have final approval on players so maybe there is some degree of truth to it.

I'm part of the crowd that says Rhule was overpowered early on and that includes during that draft and window.   Fitt was just rolling in.  All the Temple crew, insanity at the QB spot, staffing, etc.   It was someone that didn't know what he was doing with power.

Now the following draft which was Rhule's last one? I think the front office had a power change near his end.   Hindsight shows he was on the hotseat big time going into that last season.   Therefore, he couldn't do what he wanted.

You wouldn’t have to worry. If he was available for 9, Fields would be in ATL the next day for 8. You think the Falcons would pass that up?

Yes. Fields has worse passing stats than Mariota who falcons benched….definitely isn’t worth a top 10 pick.

In his 2nd year, with a pitiful team. And they were almost identical. One played in a dome most of year. One in crazy CHI weather.

And where does the 1000 more yards rushing factor in? Do they not count anymore. Sure did when Cam was here. ATL was 3rd in rushing with or without Mariota. CHI was 1st in rushing, 24th if Fields runs were removed.

Yeah I mean we passed on Mahomes too.  Does that mean we shouldn't trade for him if he is available.  That seems like a dangerous game to play...

Nothing equates that to being worth a top 10 pick. Would be foolish if Atlanta or Carolina gave up their 1st pick for him.

FA route is preferable to trading for a player.

The one thing they won’t/can’t do is nothing.

So, something will be done and the odds of everyone liking it are slim to none and fading fast.

Carr represents a turn key operation for Reich and Co to start winning now. (Higher Floor/Lower Ceiling/No Draft Capital/Higher Cap #)

A rookie provides a little wiggle room for growing pains, but as losing seasons mount, patience wanes. (Higher Ceiling/Lower Floor/Higher Draft Capital/Lower Cap #)

Trading for a Vet is pretty much the same as signing Carr but with a moderately raised ceiling. The financials go off the rails here.  Draft capital and Contract $$$.  (Higher Floor/Higher Ceiling/Higher Cost/Max Draft Capital/Max Cap #)

Choose wisely.

Nothing anyone says would equate being worth it. You conveniently ignore what doesn’t suit your narrative. It’s a much better idea to overpay a 32 year old who got sent home from his last team or take a QB at 9 who can’t handle college defenses. Good Luck

Or maybe it’s because he shown to be a poor passer (with poor technique) which is the most important part of the position. Holds on to the ball incredibly long which shows he struggles reading defenses and then the OL gets all the blame.

Never said those were great options either.

Yet his QB rating puts him between Derek Carr and Mac Jones. Two QBs with supposed great technique and better teams around them. And neither had 1100+ rushing. Which you seem to believe doesn’t matter. Again

The Derek Carr who just got cut and Mac Jones who didn’t have a good year. And never said it didn’t matter… rushing QBs who struggle passing aren’t durable nor winning super bowls or even sniffing them..
