Just for the sake of discussion, is there a correlation between size and injury?

No, I'm just disagreeing with those making up imaginary weights for Bryce despite the facts shown on the scale and the words of one of his well-respected trainers.

Here's how I've seen it go down since we traded up...

"Will Bryce be over 5'9?"

<Bryce measures in at 5'10">

"Ok, well his frame is too small though. Will he even weigh 185?"

<Bryce weighs in at 204>

"Ok, but he was wearing a hoodie and didn't participate. He must have drank 10+ bottles of water before."

It gets old and annoying to see the goal posts shift so much. I wish Stroud fans would just admit they like him more and move along. That's fine. He's a good option at QB. I'd tip my hat and move on as well. Just stop with the exaggerations. Yes, Bryce is small. No, it hasn't affected his performance to date. Those of you thinking his size is such a big deal are going against the majority of NFL front offices that have decided he won't last much past the #2 overall pick.

Matt lienart, Marcus Mariota, The Golden Calf of Bristol, Sam Bradford, Jameis Winston on the other side. Plenty of NFL meh on all sides of this argument.

Correct again a much larger sample size.  He stated because Young was small and did great in college will be small and be great in the NFL.  Heisman winning QBs usually struggle (Burrow/Cam aside) at the next level despite their size.  Young's heisman (from a data view) is not a great thing.

Blame Bryce. Step on the scales again at his pro day at 204 and it's over. He chose not to. Why?

Most QBs fall into a certain height/weight range.  So looking at previous data (especially when dealing with one as unique as Young) seems pointless to me.  My point is if we want to review this OP's data and claim Young will be healthy I can pull other data showing he will suck.  Too many variables like how good was the OL, What kind of offense did they run, what was the injury etc...

and I'm agreeing with you that Bryce's size and skill set is unique for NFL QBs.

OP's point wasn't that Bryce is less likely to be injured. It's more that we have no evidence that Bryce will be more plagued by injuries than Stroud over his career. It's impossible to predict so take the best player.

Being small has its advantages as there's less mass to impact your own mass in the context of flying and quickly shifting body parts, as well as less mass to connect with in general coming from others. So, it's not all bad.

And any player, QB or otherwise, can get wrecked in the right circumstances. Mass + speed = injury when those forces collide in the wrong way. But the NFL is *fanatical* about protecting QBs, and understandably so, given their value to the sport, both in terms of competitiveness and entertainment value.

Having said all that, I still prefer CJ due to overall arm talent and I hope we take him. But I certainly will not be mad if BY is the pick. I think he's electric and will be a bit of a circus performer - in a good way - out there on the field.

I'm just so happy for a new era beginning for the Panthers and that this new era will begin with what appears to be a very promising player at the most important position on the field.

He is failing to understand that at the lower levels guys his size are not giving the opportunity to play qb due to injury concerns.  Its just universal accepted that you need to be bigger to play the position.

I'm not failing to understand. Most bigger kids in youth football will be able to throw the ball harder/further due to their advanced physical development. If a youth football coach sees a short, skinny kid come in and throw with the talent and ability of Bryce Young, the big kid will be headed to the bench.

My son is not the biggest kid on his team, but he has been the starting QB the last two years at 7 & 8 years old. He's in that position because he has the strongest arm on the team and best awareness for the position. Bryce isn't suffering in those areas.

Because he's been assured he's going in the top two. I honestly don't know why he even threw. Probably just to help give his skill guys some looks from NFL teams.

I mean Young was trying to put on weight before the combine to "have a frame that's going to hold up." So I guess someone needs to tell him that lower weight doesn't mean more injury?

I have it close enough to where I would be happiest if we could get Houston to move up and take whoever they don't want plus the extra picks.

And if the Texans are smart, they'll happily sit at 2 and take whichever QB is left that they want while keeping their picks. The Panthers made the move up to 1 and if I were in the Texans' GM's shoes, I'd make the Panthers make their choice instead of paying to make it for them.

Yep there are two top choices both with strengths and weaknesses.
