Tyler Brayton - Love to keep him.. not as bad as people misunderstand him to be.

Tank Tyler (RFA) - based on potential mostly..

Thomas Davis - explanation not needed.

James Anderson - only if he comes cheap, good STer and backup (this year)..

Richard Marshall - if he doesn't want a top CB contract, he's not worth that dough... worth keeping though

C.J. Wilson (RFA) - showing good potential this year..

Quinton Teal (RFA) - decent to good STer...

agree with that.....Marshall is an average at best CB. Most likely if Captain improves going into his 2nd year Marshall will be the 3rd best corner on the team. He ain't worth spending a lot on at all.

Id say keep marshall especially on ST's, I remember him snatching a fake field goal and running it back in the preseason last year. He's not a legitament started he tends to blow coverage, but he's a damn good tackler. I feel Gamble has become overrated, he was good his early years but since the defensive scheme has changed he has tended to decline. I attended the taste of the panthers this year and met Tyler Brayton there, he's a good guy and I asked him if he was planning on resigning, he said that he hopes carolina makes him a long term offer for what he feels he is worth, he says he enjoys the chemistry and playing for this team. If pep ever comes around and signs a long term deal that will save us a little cap room, then carolina should definitely keep him. I believe carolina should resign Jeff King, because face it we are a run first pass later style of offense and he's a good blocking tight end with mediocre hands. No doubt Davis should be resigned he's a monster and woulda been a pro bowl selection this year if it was'nt for the injury. Idk about resigning Tank Tyler though, we have the big man in Hollis Thomas and Ma'ake will be back next year, not to mention we still have Damione Lewis also. Matt Moore as of late has proven that he should be a back up in this league so dont waste good money on him. And I believe Moose wants to retire here also. But Connor should definitely replace Diggs in our defense hands down, just watch his higlights from penn state and read his biography theres alot of potential there.

Tank Tyler should ABSOLUTELY be re-signed. Hollis Thomas won't be around next year, and we have to see how Kemo comes back from surgery, and he has a high paycheck that we could dump. Tank was really impressing me in the short time we had him. Great push, commanded double teams, and could pass rush when given the opportunity.

Next year I actually see our DTs being: Tank Tyler, Damione Lewis, Corvey Irvin, Leonard Lewis and a Rookie/FA

If we were smart, we would trade Kemo to a 3-4 team that needs a nose tackle. Id take a 4th, even a 5th for him.

In my opinion....

Resign for sure:

Thomas Davis

Sign if they go for cheap:

James Anderson

Jeff King

Quinton Teal (he'd have to go a bit cheaper)

As far as Marshall is concerned not worth a starter's pay. Not even really close...why is he out there again?

He can make some smart plays, and can finish them off but he can't tackle 1 on 1 worth a poo and I mean like at all...where as gamble can usually handle a 1 on 1 tackle. Gamble does a great job Marshall should by no means compare himself to Gamble. You have to remember that Gamble being the '#1' corner is always on the best receivers in the league and yet still seems to do better than Marshall, especially when comparing consistency.

I'm starting to come around to the idea of giving players a qualifying offer, and hoping that another team signs them, so you can get the draft pick. If you chose to match the offer they receive, then you get to keep them, but they almost always leave the next year, and you get nothing in return.

The qualifying offers are are relatively cheep, around $1.1 mil gets a 3rd round compensatory pick in 2011 (or later, the round in which they were drafted), $1.57 mil gets a 2nd round pick from the signing team, $2.1 gets a 1st round pick from the signing team, and $2.7 mil gets a 1st and a 3rd round picks from the signing team. In most cases, the offers requiring teams to give up draft picks greatly reduces the market for players, unless the 2 teams can workout a reduced price.

Marshall may ask for around $6-7 mil, but I think he will wind up signing for around $5 mil, so the Panthers could give him the max offer, and no team will sign him. The minimum offer would bring a 3rd round pick, which isn't bad, but I think the Panthers will give him 1 of the 2 middle offers. A 2nd round pick for Marshall (and use the pick to replace him) is a good deal, but the 1st round offer might prevent teams from signing him. Some people on this forum run down Marshall's ability, and call him the weak link in the Panthers pass defense, but totally overlook Chris Harris lack of cover skills and speed, just because his a good hitter.

To me the Panthers should use the minimum offer on some of their Restricted Free Agents, and hope some teams sign them, so they will at least get a draft pick in return for them, rather than just 1 year and gone. These players are TE Jeff King (5th round pick), OLB James Anderson (3rd round pick), and maybe DT Tank Tyler (3rd round pick), if long term deals can't be worked out. The Panthers should give OLB Thomas Davis at least the 1st round pick offer, but probably the 1st and 3rd round pick offer, because they can't afford to lose him, unless they get at least a 1st round pick in return.
