JJ Jansen on WFNZ (Mac and Bone are in Spartanburg) right now giving a great interview.

Just gave a subtle Bryce Young to Luke Kuechly comparison and raving about this coaching staff.

I really have grown to love JJ and his personality over the years. He's the longest tenured Panther ever and he's still really damn good at his job, even if it's just long snapping.

Hope he sticks around in some way shape or form after he eventually retires, I'm not ready for him to do so yet.

Same here. I hope we can get a couple more years out of him.

Dude has more insight into this franchise than probably anyone, honestly. He's been through 4 coaching regime changes, 3 GMs, and 2 owners.

Plus he's a long snapper so he just kind of gets to observe things without really being bothered. I'd love to sit and pick his brain about everything he's seen over the past 16 years. I'm sure it'd be informative.

I will always wonder how he convinced them to join his staff

I'd have to look back but I think there were some player connections that helped.

I know Campen had been on two straight staffs whose head coaches had been fired one season after he got there. His post Green Bay career was a little hectic before he settled here.

    • He has attempted 8 shootout goals in his NHL career and made 1. He is among our worst SO guys on the entire roster in terms of career stats.
    • Against Miami, the Panthers were behind by 17 in the 2nd quarter facing a 4th - 5. Young completed a 21 yard pass and they went on to score 7 on that drive. Then in the 4th, down by 4, they faced a 4th - 5 and again, he completed a 17 yard pass and they went onto score a TD for the win. He also accounted for 2 of the 3 TD's.  As I said, he got them in that mess and no doubt, Rico gets credit as well, but missing on either of those 4th down conversions hands the ball over and results in 1 or 2 less TD's giving them a loss. As you said though, that's just a small quibble. The real question is how does the FO see it?  I am guessing they see it as something to build on. I think most peope here see it as a total loss and fully expect the FO to see it that way as well. Time will tell.
    • Kochetkov is just too streaky. TBD if Freddie is doing that too. Freddie is the more reliable goalie over his career. The Bussi kid looks like he could be a solid #2 eventually.  Just need to figure out the #1 guy. Same as almost every year. It's not talent, it's consistency and being able to step up in the playoffs.
