What is Burns worth?

Burns is my favorite player on the team, but it's time we trade him.

Not because he's not elite. We need to trade him because we literally have nothing on offense. If we can get a WR we have to explore it.

This offense is flat out unwatchable, from the play calling and the WR's not getting separation it's clear we need a playmaker on offense.

He wants Bosa money and he doesn’t deserve it but the Panthers have cornered themselves.

I would’ve traded Brown instead of Moore. Now we may have to trade Burns for a legit WR. That’s a trade I’d make for the sake of our QB’s development.

Interesting. Let’s look at potential suitors that have extra WRs and might make the trade:

CIN - Higgins (contract year)

LAC - Mike Williams (Bosa and Burns together - oh my, but they don’t have the $)

MIA - Waddle (they could use Burns, but Waddle and Cheetah are almost too formidable to separate)

JAC - Ridley/Kirk (they would probably rather move Kirk, but I like Ridley - he’s basically DJ Moore)

Might be a thread worthy topic

Which WR who could realistically be had via trade would you trade Burns for?

That team would then also have to be unwilling to pay their WR but willing to pay Burns…

You start it and I’ll get some Cap numbers together.

Winning franchises would pay a premier pass rusher before a receiver any day of the week.

It's teams like the Panthers that would do foolishness like that in reverse.

Stroud threw for 384 yards and his leading receiver was a rookie receiver taken a round later than we took Mingo.

The Rams have a rookie named Puka Nacua leading the league in receptions.

Good coordinators can scheme people open.

You aren’t wrong. I’m not for trading Burns for a WR, but in this what if scenario, what might our idiot GM consider?

Don't overlook the cap space that trading CMC created.  It was a big deal and allowed us to build this defense.

We didn’t open up that much cap space. We had a bunch of dead cap. What we would have hit our cap is what hit the 49ers. Their total cap hit for 4 years of CMC is $39M. We signed Sanders to a 4 years $25M deal ($13M guaranteed).

Congratulations, they have one of the best offensive weapons in the league and we have Sanders for $3.5M a year less. Sanders and Chark are more expensive cap wise by $1.5M than CMC.

We do have DJ Johnson from the trade as well. Winning!

Also, good GMs draft better players.

I know you have to evaluate every move on its own, but if that happened, the sequence of events you're describing would essentially mean we turned CMC, DJ Moore, Brian Burns, and 3 2nd round picks (23 SF, 24 CAR, 25 CAR) into Bryce Young and DJ Johnson.

+ Whoever we took with the returned pick.

Thank god, someone with sanity.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
