Experienced Depth.

This is a bright side about having so many players on IR.

At the beginning of the season, all of us (including myself) believed if there was any substantial injury to the offensive line that it would be catastrophic. However, we end up losing both of our starting offensive tackles.

Many would assume this would be devastating to the offense. But, Mackenzy Bernadeau and Geoff Schwartz are pressed into service and preform extremely well these last few games. They will be young, cheap, experienced backups next year. Check that off next seasons To Worry About list.

Charles Godfrey, an average FS in this league, was injured and he was replaced by Sherrod Martin, who had been playing corner. Kurt Warner is going to attack Martin and make the rookie Safety/Corner look like a rookie right?

Wrong. Martin intercepts him twice and plays the run decently well. He plays well for a few games, then Godfrey is given his spot back. But again, next season we know we have a young, cheap player with some game experience with success.

Defensive Tackle next season will be an unbelievable competition. Many would assume Kemo would be gone because of the cap hit. But I think Lewis will be gone as well. He is due a 9.3 milloin dollar team option. Worth it? I dont think so. But we will have a very good competition, with Leonard, Tyler, (gulp) Hayden, Rookie. Maybe Thomas comes back if he can.

Linebackers, losing Thomas Davis is going to really hurt the defense. Right? Not so fast my friend. Now, I would much rather have Thomas Davis next season then to let him walk. But I have been so excited about how James Anderson has finally received a real shot. And he has preformed exceptionally well. Can he replace Diggs next season? Maybe. Can he be the back up to both outside Linebacker spots. I'm sure he could.

In short, next season, we will not only have young, experienced, cheap, backups at many key positions. We will have young guys hungry for playing time and pushing the starters for playing time. Which will breed some very healthy competition.

I agree 100%. This is from my post on 12/23.

This 2009 season has given our team something that is much needed in the NFL, experienced depth. Our backups have received quality playing time and experience this year. Experience that will be crucial next year. When our IR players are back for 2010, this team will be two deep at almost every position. If Fox and Hurney can manipulate the Delhomme and Peppers mine field that is looming, we have a great shot at doing something special next season with the current core of players. The Delhomme situation is the fly in the ointment, but I'm not sure a new coach comes in here and makes the difference we are all hoping for. Before this year, 7-9 was Fox's worst record. His teams compete even when the deck is stacked against them as seen on Sunday night. I have flip flopped on Fox this season like never before. The Buffalo game had me calling for his head.

If we can just have a relativity injury free season. Except for the imaginary one that keeps Jake on the bench if he is still on the team. We should have a season a lot like 2008, but with a dominating defense. And Matt Moore Better running the team!

Like 2008? Yep, 12-4 and one and done in the playoffs... hopefully we can repeat the regular season part and do better in the post-season.

Valid point. It's happened in prior seasons too, and is a factor (to varying degrees) in the tendency to follow a bad season with a good one.

Yep. With how our defense are getting real good lately & could be even better next season is making me excited about the future if Fox doesn't screw it up. It kinda scary to see how our defense are going to get better next year with how this is Meeks's first season here. Can't wait to see a lot of improvements soon! :cheers2:

      this one is gold:     Bryce has a cult inside the Panthers fanbase that has truly developed some NPC hivemind. I'll never understand how he's captured the true essence of the casual fan like that.
