NEW YORK -- Mark McGwire finally came clean Monday, admitting he used steroids when he broke baseball's home run record in 1998.

McGwire said in a statement sent to the Associated Press on Monday that he used steroids on and off for nearly a decade and he apologizes for his actions.

He says: "I wish I had never touched steroids. It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era."

now what to do with that info. do you let roid users in the HOF or not? what sucks is not eveyone used, but the % is not known. if it was 50%+ does that change things? what if it was 80%? do we just blow up the era and no one from the steriods era gets in? how can we know who didnt use and who did?

personally i dont like the fact they used it, and dont like the mofo's wont admit to it. atleast mark manned up, even if it took 10 years. i am split, he did it in an era when others did it, and still beat the poo out of the others using steriods, like guys not using in previous eras beat the poo outa the ball of guys not using roids. he also hit more than others using roids, so idk. im split on the issue personally. i mean the pitchers of this era pitch of a shorter mound, and that benifitted the batters, so do we look at pitchers before the mound hight change differently, same for hitters? not really. bats changed, parks got smaller, technology changes in balls, bats, cleats, and glove all helped the players perform better.

yet this is the 1st performance upgrade that really pisses people off.

pstall I have no proof, BUT I'm willing to bet there are already HOFers that use PEDs in the hall. Even before roids, they were hopped on uppers. doc threw a perfect game on LSD. currently i believe around 30% of all MLB players have "ADD" prescriptions. That numbers has risen each year after drug policy took effert. Number was less than 1% pre-drug test, now 30%......

plus there are all sort of other loop holes, a GIANT one being HGH. im willing to guess the users of that is over 50%. many other victor chemist out there, move this and that and you have a new PED.

Great post....until they test for HGH then drug testng is useless. If they tested for HGH in the NFL, teams would not have enough players to field a team. (Nor would baseball, hockey, etc......)

I don't understand the whole "it is ok if they used it to get back on the field"....then cue tearful blubbering.

Umm, if you used to just get back on the field, otherwise your ass would retire, like they used to have to do, instead of having a career rebirth at age 30+ (cough cough big redheaded penis cough cough Barroid Bonds).

The point is, these guys prolonged careers, enhanced careers, cheated baseball, and baseball itself in the form of that rat Bud Selig knew exactly what the hell was happening.

I despise them all. They cheated my game. They cheated my stats. They cheated my history. And they can all go fistscrew themselves.

Jerks.

Why would you have to ban what was already an illegal substance? Is it OK to murder the next days opposing pitcher?

Anyway, McGuire realized he ain't making it into the HOF playing his stupid game and played the I didn't need it "I only did it for injuries" Bullshit card.

Why isn't he banned from baseball? Pete Rose got a lifetime ban for doing something that never affected the outcome of a game.

McGuire and all the rest of the roiders need to be banned and barred from the HOF.

If we are gonna talk Rose. He should be in because of his playing days. He was never going to be confused with being a great baseball MGR.

Cheating is cheating. The use based on injuries is still tough. If that was not illegal and was the tech available at that time, I don't see the harm there. But to specifically use anything to boost your overall game, that I do think is dirtbaggish.

    • I don't know if Canales is any good as a head coach yet, but he has done well with our non-XL receivers. I personally think he is handicapped by a key personnel and that is partly out of his hands for the next couple weeks. He's also very young, so will absolutely have head scratchers and growing pains. But outside of Wilks he's probably already out best HC since Rivera, which isn't saying much, and imo his ceiling is unknown vs Wilks' which is unfortunately very well known.
    • That's not what Bryce was pitched to be. Nor was the, what, 4th or 5th Tepper rebuild iteration? That's the problem with all this. You trade all this draft capital up to get these guys(Bryce, XL, etc) and then when they get their opportunities they can't hack it. As I have said many times, I view this as less of a development issue as I do an evaluation issue. We just suck at identifying talent correctly. It fails us all too often. If it was solely development, so many of these guys that left here after being failed draft picks would be studs. That is literally almost never the case.
    • I remember the days when it would take WRs a few years to figure it out in the NFL...  What a time that was! Getting to the point of guys finding success else where after flopping here:  patience and a vision. Thanks to Tepper, we haven't been able to develop a vision.  Without patience, everything is a reaction. That's not to say sometimes you can tell when a fit it bad and people need to move on.  In XLs case, it's not going to hurt us to be patient.   Sure, fans see how Tmac is doing and are like "XL who??"  I get it, but I also think reacting for the sake of reacting isn't the best thing to do. Should XL get off social media for a bit and focus on the game?  Yes.  As Cam screamed "Lock in bro!"   I know being patient is hard when you see guys get off to fast starts in their careers.  Tepper can't really afford to be reactive right now.  He's got to let Dan and Dave have the time to build their team. Most of us are Panther fans.  We're the idiots here, year after year, hoping things have changed.  Most of us will continue to do so, and hope things turn around.  While some of us will balk at the salary cap, contracts and wasted years; it doesn't affect us personally since we're just fan. Now for those folks on the teams...yeah...they need to get it together before they lose their jobs and have to move!
