John Fox to San Diego??????? More Speculation

San Diego would never fire its head coach after a season in which they reached the playoffs.

 uh... they fired Marty remember after going 14-2

You know with some franchises, just getting to the playoffs isn't enough. Understandably so with Chargers since they never won one

If Fox ends up in SD, I sure as heck hope that we don't sign Norv turner to replace him! The guy is terrible, TERRIBLE, at preparing his teams...

This man would be my first pick. Leslie Frazier he would more then likely keep Meeks as well.

Who cares Fox couldn't coach himself out of a cardboard box even if he tried. The only reason for his success of late is D-will, J-stew and Smith.

Oh... because I'm sure that's why he has never coached a team that has been the victim of the TV Special "C'mon Man!" that enough is a testament to his coaching ability. You can only force a man to do so much.

Yes, i hate the decision just as much as the next guy to keep Delhomme in, but after his #2 QB went down (McCown) I can see why he waited so long if he had no faith in his #3 QB.

John Fox cannot go out and play WR for Mushin Muhammad, Kenneth Moore, or Dwayne Jarret through the first 8 games of the season in which they couldn't produce. And the running game wouldn't be as effective as it was on its limited carries if we didn't open it up just a nudge with the pass. Sure we ran alot against 8-man boxes and were successful, but how long through a game would that success last before the other team got lucky on 1st and 2nd down? Hell, remember the 1st game against New Orleans? We tried to just run it the whole game and got slaughtered at the end because of FUMBLES! Then when Delhomme finally throws a good pass Dwayne Jarret can't catch a simple floater. We get inside the 5-yard line in the 3rd quarter to ice the game and we can't pound it in, same against the Redskins. And we already know our Offensive Line ain't poo, so we gave our team the best chance of winning by calling those plays and they still couldn't come up with it.

No, you can't blame Fox for the Saints lost, or the Buffulo lost from a coaching stand point if you think about it: Kasey missing all those field goals against Buffulo, Stewart unable to convert a 4 & 1, Stewart unable to punch it in inside the 5 against the Saints. Gamble unable to defend a shitty, young WR for 2 quick TD's against New Orleans. Yes, blame him for the Cowboys lost, the Atlanta lost, the Philadelphia lost, he didn't have his team prepared in the beginning of the season, but last I checked, it's how you finish the season that really matter the most, and the Jets are proving that again this year. He was in perfect position this year as far as how he had his team playing by the end of the year, we just were a bit too short early.

Doubt it though. John likes to run... I dont see with Rivers you can't let him be the first option to turn to

But then again, they just lost. Maybe become the team that upset the hell outta them on their home field

no we will trade fox and delhomme for rivers, problem solved. thats what i heard anyway.

    • Congratulations do they know who the father is?
    • In my opinion Fitterer was probably right about not paying McCaffrey. Now not wanting to "pay RBs" in my opinion isn't something you want to set in stone, to me it all comes down to the individual.
    • Maybe I'm just not understanding, but everywhere that I have read says that signing bonuses go against the cap prorated by as much as five years. The following example uses Andrew Luck's rookie contract as an example. "Take Andrew Luck, the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Luck signed a four-year contract with the Colts worth $22.1 million and included a $14.5 million signing bonus. Rather than a $14.5 million cap hit in 2012, the Colts spread out his signing bonus over the life of his contract. The hit against the cap would be $3.625 million per year over four years instead of a direct cap hit of $14.5 million directly in 2012. This gave the Colts more leverage and cap flexibility in signing other players." https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-signing-bonuses-explained/ I don't know why some of you think that signing bonuses aren't counted against the cap over the length of the contract, but whatever.   "The bonus with a signing is usually the most garish aspect of a rookie contract. Bonus is the immediate cash players receive when they ink a deal. It factors into the cap, but only for the whole contract duration, in terms of salary cap calculations. In the case of Bryce Young’s $24.6 million signing bonus, that’s prorated to approximately $6.15 million per season over a four-year deal. This format allows teams to handle the cap and provides rookies with some short-term fiscal stability, which is important given the high injury risk in this league." https://collegefootballnetwork.com/how-rookie-contracts-work-in-the-nfl/ I understand how signing bonuses can be a useful tool in order to manage the cap, and as one of the article suggests, signing bonuses may become important if you have a tight cap, but the bill is always going to come due. I'm not necessarily referring to you Tuka, but it seems to me that others simply don't want to understand that fact which is why they're reacting to what I'm saying negatively. How odd. In any event, I have a better general understanding of why signing bonuses are used now, and it's generally to fit salaries under the cap. Surely players, whether they be rookies or not, love a signing bonus because they get a good portion of their money up front. This in turn gives them more security and probably amounts to tax benefits as well. I also understand why teams would not want to use signing bonuses, particularly for players or draftees who have a higher probability of being gone before a contract even ends.
