Will we not know the QB situ until the draft or...

LMAO! Dude they completely took you to school and its not even close. You are just too blinded by your love for Jake/Fox/Hurney to even see it.

The problem with having a "competition" is that it wouldnt even be fair since Fox and Hurney would do everything in their power to make sure jake would win so they dont look like fools for giving him that ridiculous extension. They are just too stubborn to realize that Jake is done and that they kept the better QB on the bench because they dont want to admit they made a mistake. Its clear P55 wants "competition" too just so his master can have a chance to redeem himself after making such a HORRIBLE decision.

I would imagine you would be one of those too naive to read beyond a superficial level and be impressed with smoke and mirrors. That demonstrates more about your lack of insight than the quality of their comments. And as usual you are wrong about the competition angle. The competition is to bring out the best in Moore not redeem Jake. As I have said ad nauseum, Jake is not the long term solution, Matt Moore could be. But he needs to do everything he can to excel and grow. Competition in professional athletics is a perfect vehicle to do that.

Week 1, regular season. Until then, it is what it is.

Exactly! Nobody is going to know ANYTHING concret until week 1. Everything between now and then is going to be somebody talking out of their ass about either their own personal feelings, or what they think may happen.

As much as Fox sticks with Delhomme, I wouldn't put it past him to start the season with Delhomme, but have an EXTREMELY short leash on him ~ example ~ Rodney Peete/Jake Delhomme.

At the same time, I still feel that Matt Moore is the best option, regardless of how the draft may go.

/Sigh!

Yet another example of you yourself being "baffle"d by your own BS!

I never said Michael did not practice...in fact he did, and practiced very hard...here let me quote what I actually said:

He was just horrible during practice! No one, including Dean Smith when he was at Carolina, could understand how he could be so GREAT in games...Come on, Dean only played the greatest player of all time for around 15 min a game...why? Because he didn't practice well! Geez

Great practices, pre-season, TC, etc etc != Great game time play! Sorry it just doesn't!

Now, in no way am I saying that a great work ethic is bad...in fact it is very important! But, since you are a teacher and all, I would assume you would realize that some people accel in different things; you know, like that pet student you have that talks all intellectual and junk but then you grade his test and DAMN he is freakin stupid! That stoner kid though, you know the one im sure, the one in the back of the class that keeps making straight A's; you just can't understand, kinda like football apparenlty! :boxing_smiley:

I really don't wanna get in a pissing match with you bacause I think we can both agree that our "opinions" vary greatly on this subject, and many others I'm sure. We just aren't going to agree; but for the love of god, when we are 4-12 next season, even with a weak schedule, with Jake as our starter because of great play when it doesn't matter = "Jake gives us the best chance to win" comes into play; pull this thread back up and at least laugh at yourself for the BS you try to baffle us with ;)

Show me where people said Jordan was a poor practice player in the NBA which would be analogous to Matt Moore's situation. How hard a player practices when he is 19 or 20 in college or even whether he failed to made his 10th grade high school team has no bearing on whether he practices hard as a professional athlete. If we were talking about how hard Moore practiced at Oregon it might be remotely relevant. As it is, you have gone down a bunny trail and introduced an illusory correlation. Two things that appears to be correlated or connected to each other but in fact are not connected at all.

As for the teacher comments, no I wouldn't be so shallow as to think that a student who tries to use big words is inherently intelligent or that a stoner is inherently stupid. I tend to delve beyond the obvious or superficial before I form opinions about students much like I do about football or any topic of which I speak. Much like I on the surface would assume you are rather uneducated and superficial but would withhold that judgment until I knew more about you as well.

Again when you have nothing you can say you all go back to statements or comments that you ascribe to me that are totally erroneous. I tell you I am fine with Matt starting and you continue to suggest I want Jake to start no matter what????? Feel free to continue to make things up but the bottom line is that I don't say or believe half of the things that are ascribed to me. In fact this thread is full of posters commenting what I think or believe despite direct statements to the contrary. Seems there is a real need to paint me in the extreme which is totally inaccurate.

Look Jake, since you refuse to look at facts as anything more than opinion or say things are irrelevant when they don't support your cause then I just don't know what to say!

You continue to say you are fine with Matt starting so long as Jake (you) are allowed to compete for the job! I say the competition should be complete and Jake (you) lost! Matt is a far superior QB!

Even you're not dumb enough to actually believe that. Then again......:D

You can bet your ass that if this is a "competition" then Jake will be handed the job unless he just completely stinks it up in preseason. Fox is the most hard headed coach in the history of the league. He doesnt want to look like a fool and will do what it takes to redeem himself rather than do whats best for the franchise. Why do you think he lied and told everyone that Jake broke his finger? Its because it was the only way he could sit him and still keep his own dignity.

Just like virgins don't worry about pregnancy tests, if Matt is obviously superior then he has nothing to fear by competition. So what are all of you so afraid of? Competition is healthy for everyone. Again a superficial view of the issue would say that a quarterback who has played well in five games this year is inherently better than one who has that many playoff games. For me it remains to be seen. I look forward to next season and the competition at several positions, with the quarterback position being only one.

Obviously you are dumb enough to believe what you just said. Fox is stubborn but he will do everything he can for himself and his future which is tied to the Panthers success in his last year. Even if you were so paranoid to believe that Fox didn't care about the Panthers, he would do everything he can to make them look great which is a direct reflection of his ability. As for the thumb, seriously. I thought we beat that up to death and it was agreed that it was actually injured. You need to come out from under the troll bridge so you can keep up with the rest of us.

When did "we" agree on this? Everyone knows the injury wasnt serious if it was even real at all. I suppose you have never heard of Fox IR?

Matt Moore has already earned the starting job. I know it, you know it, and the panthers know it. Having a competition is just an excuse to give Jake his job back so the front office can save face and have a chance to redeem themselves. That is far more important to Fox than winning games.

Wait! First off, Jake played well ONE YEAR, in a miraculous playoff run! Wait again, let me take that back! IF it weren't for Steve being able to make Miraculous catches (making Jake look good) Jake would already be gone...what has he done in the playoffs SANS ONE YEAR! NOTHING!!!!! And he didn't even do it then...most of the time, even when it was Steven Davis, it was our running game!

Wait yet again, five games THIS year, the Man has come in and looked GREAT in previous years, HE has only lost TWO games as a starter and the Dallas Game was given by the REFS! Seriously P55 What the f**k are you smokin? I want some! Fact is Matt has and always will be a winner...second fact, Before John Fox Jake was, and still should be, a back up QB at best...stop with the Bull S*it already you are making yourself look bad!

Edit:

He was cut by the Aints FOR GOD SAKE! If he wasn't good enough for them...

Yet most of this community has rembraced him as there own...I say he has wasted numerous Steve Smith years of talent...sorry Steve!

I won't waste me time responding to your ranting but point out again where you are incorrect. Jake wasn't cut by the Saints when we picked him up, he was a free agent sought by both us and Dallas. He chose us given he felt that with Peete here, we gave him the best chance to start. It is pretty apparent who knows what they are talking about and who doesn't.

At least you did some homework so we can have a discussion. You and I both know you were referring to them releasing him before he came here in 2003.

Good recovery though, the internet is a wonderful thing. But that happens to most undrafted quarterbacks who are working their way onto a roster. And here is a more accurate link to discuss what happened to him. He was waived 2 times onto the practice squad and did go to the NFL Europe twice in his career. I feel bad they got rid of it. A lot of current players were groomed and improved in Europe including another future hall of famer, Kurt Warner. Being waived isn't a terrible thing, it happened to Moore by the Cowboys before we picked him up as well. Do you really think that has some bearing on his status now? Kurt Warner was waived again in 2004 for example. Did that prevent him from excelling in Arizona.

As for knowing everything, lets hope not. People who believe they know everything stop learning and growing. IQ reportedly goes down after the age of 18 for many people which coincides with the end of school and a regression in their learning process. I hope I never stop learning or am naive enough to think I know everything. People who claim omniscience rarely do. Sorry for the big words though they are just part of my vocabulary, would you prefer I "dummy it down" when discussing things here with you.

Lemme help you out cuz you're still not getting it.

FACT - There was no competition at QB due to Fox's loyalty and the extension.

That is a fact. There was NO competition. Geez...there was no way Moore or McCown was going to start over Delhomme this year. I don't blame Fox for starting Jake, I blame him and Hurney for giving Delhomme that extension therefore forcing Jake to start.

Not entirely correct.

Contrary to popular belief, Fox isn't an idiot. He's not going to risk his job on a guy just because he likes him. As far as the QB depth chart last season, it wasn't at all that he was afraid of competition. He didn't see the need for it. He had a number three, a vet backup and a starter that, based on prior experience, he trusted.

Reality is that Fox genuinely believed the playoff game was just an aberration and Delhomme would return to form. Did I buy it? Nope, but I acknowledge that knowing only what we knew then, it was a valid option.

FACT - Jake has played bad this whole season. Bad in camp, bad in the scrimmage (was booed off), bad in the preseason, and bad in the opener(benched).

There is more, but I think this pretty much sums this up. Like I said, this wasn't an opinion of mine. Jake was looking very bad this year. Again, Fact.

It's a pretty big stretch to suggest that he looked bad all preseason considering that starters, Delhomme included, didn't get that much playing time in preseason save for week three. And no one had any objective analysis that he looked bad in camp. It's not especially easy to tell much of anything in camp. I'd add that fans booing at Fan Fest - or any other time - is utterly meaningless. No coach with half a brain should ever factor fan reaction into his decisions.

Now was Delhomme bad in the opener? Absolutely. So was just about everything else. But to suggest anyone knew ahead of time that it was going to go this bad is just projected hindsight. In truth, other than the playoff game (which, as stated, Fox believed was an aberration) there was no hard evidence to support benching him this season until week one.

FACT - John Fox sacrificed this season because he doesn't like Moore and wanted to "win" with Jake.

I don't think I have to post a link on Jake's broken finger once our season ended.

Again, not quite true.

It's not that he didn't "like" Matt Moore. He didn't trust Matt Moore because what he saw of Moore's approach to the game made him think Moore would fail on the field. No coach - other than a moron, which Fox is not - would put someone on the field who he didn't believe could win just because it "felt better".

Fox was wrong (very wrong) but it was a judgment call, not something personal.

His coaching instincts told him that Moore was too laid back to be the kind of guy the team needed. And Fox wasn't alone in that opinion. Others (Dan Morgan, for example) expressed similar opinions. Thus, it was a valid way of thinking.

It just happened to be wrong.

Like I said, none of this is my opinion.

Actually, it's a pretty healthy dose of your opinion, and that of some others. Little to none of what you posted here really qualifies as objective fact.

Jake showed at the Bills game how horrible he was. There was no way we were going to the playoffs let alone a winning season with him at helm. That's not my opinion that Delhomme was tanking our season, that was reality. The main argument was whether Fox was keeping Jake in because he didn't like Moore, Moore looked bad, or Moore didn't know the "playbook". Zod aka Beason answered that. Also, Fox has stated he would have a hard time "benching" Delhomme. It would be my opinion if this didn't happen yet, but it already happened. We now know that even if Fox didn't like Moore or his work ethics or w/e...he wanted to win with Delhomme and didn't really care how bad he was playing. He put his philosophy and relationship with Delhomme over the team.

Ex: Blaming Scherer for Delhomme's problems yet Delhomme continues to mess up.

Fox never blamed Scherer. Neither did Delhomme. An article came out that said Scherer and the team had decided to stop trying to change Jake's mechanics. Did it fix things? No. But was it a wise move? Probably. It's pretty tough to remake a guy Jake's age, and generally unwise to even try.

Still, no one ever actually said Scherer was to blame. They just said they needed to change their approach. And in the short term, it actually helped, but it wasn't the root of the problem.

The rest is opinions of mine...accurate ones. All you have to do is play each scenario out.

Scenario #1 - Fox goes into camp with a competition of Delhomme and Moore. Moore wins out and starts next season.

a.) Moore plays good enough for us to make the playoffs

b.) Moore plays bad for an extended amount of time, we put Delhomme in aka END OF THE SEASON.

Scenario #2 - Fox goes into camp with a competition of Delhomme and Moore. Delhomme wins out and starts next season. Fans mob/protest/etc...losing a good chunk of the fanbase on a small market team right before a lockout.

a.) Delhomme plays like crap and tanks our season again

b.) Delhomme plays like crap and is pulled, but the damage is already done fanbase-wise unless we make the playoffs.

c.) Delhomme regains form and plays average, we make the playoffs.

d.) Delhomme regains form and plays average, yet we miss the playoffs.

Scenario #3 - Fox goes into camp with a competition of Delhomme and FA/Rookie after losing Moore. Delhomme WILL win out. Fans become even MORE pissed for trading away our "future".

Repeat Scenario #2's a-d

Scenario #4 - Fox goes into camp with a competion of Moore and FA/Rookie. Moore probably will win out.

Blah blah blah, you get the rest.

Like I said, going into camp or the season with Moore and Delhomme is setting ourselves up thin and failure IMO because we're putting EVERYTHING on Moore to not only play well, but to stay healthy as well. Everyone knows Fox will probably be gone next year and Delhomme WILL be cut next year. We already know what we have with Delhomme, washed-up QB. The fact we have Jake slated to battle Moore for the starting job is laughable. I don't hear about guys like Shaun Hill or Kerry Collins battling Alex Smith and Vince Young respectively. When a young guy outplays an old guy to that magnitude, you move on. We just haven't figured out common NFL logic yet.

All of that is pure speculation.

Honestly, I don't know why people try making this into something personal. It wasn't that at all. It was bad judgment which, in my opinion, is even worse.

Fox didn't say Jake gave us "the best chance to win" because he was defending a good buddy. Fox said so because he was looking at Delhomme's prior body of work, what he had accomplished, the way he went about his job daily and the other factors affecting team performance.

(and realistically, Delhomme was not the only problem)

Based on those things, Fox believed that the right thing to do was to stick with Delhomme, limit his throws and adjust the game plan accordingly.

He was, of course, spectacularly wrong. But it was a decision made with his head, not with his heart.

And again, to me, that makes the whole situation even worse :nonod:

That's one of the big reasons why I believed the best thing to do was to replace Fox. Clearly now, that just isn't going to happen, so we have to hope for the best within the parameters that are set.

That does mean Fox as head coach. But to make the leap that Fox as head coach automatically means Delhomme as starter is a major leap in logic (if it can even be called that).

In point of fact, I see a lot more emotional thinking out of the fans than I do the team. We're angry about last year and so we flame Fox and imply all kinds of bad motives to him. But while the criticism is deserved, a lot of it isn't very informed. And neither are the expectations for next season. Most of that - especially the belief that Fox will just automatically name jake the starter again - is emotional, and ignores the things we can actually see.

Everything I've seen makes me believe that the team is ready to transition to Moore as the starter.

Are they going to come out and say that? No, and why should they? Because some fans want it? Please! Fans will be around at training camp and week one of next year excited and ready to go regardless of whether the team makes any statements now about who's starting next year or not.

Whether we like it or not, it's smart for Fox and the team to play things close to the vest and not reveal anything until they have to. It's how a lot of teams operate, and with good reason.

Still, if you're smart enough to read between the lines, there are definite glimpses of what's coming.
