Jerry Rice takes a shot at TO (and deservedly so)

Jerry Rice's competitiveness is legendary. That's why it wasn't a surprise to hear Rice, unprompted, bring up Terrell Owens' recent comments on the Dan Patrick Show.

"Dan, here's the thing. I'm not the greatest receiver. Terrell Owens is the greatest receiver," Rice said, tongue firmly planted in cheek. "That's what I heard. He made a statement saying that if he had Joe Montana and Steve Young, he'd probably be breaking my records now. So Terrell is the greatest receiver."

Rice denied that he was bothered by the talk. "I'm not really that surprised by it. I never played the game for the records. I played to win championships, and do great things with my teammates."

That was a subtle dig at T.O. This one was less subtle:

"I had some different quarterbacks, Matt Cavanaugh . . . It's all about how the wide receiver can complement the quarterback to make that person look better. Joe [Montana] told me I added five years to his career. ... It's all about making things a little easier for that other person."

Now that's something Terrell Owens has never been accused of.

I absolutely love this.

If anything it was more of Rice making Young and Montana than the other way around. Rice also had Jeff Garcia and Rich Gannon as QBs too and was still great. Not that they were any slouchers, but when you're still great with 4 different QBs, its not the QB making the WR.

TO had a great QB in McNabb, but he destroyed that. He had no leg to stand on when saying what he did and Rice was right for taking a shot at him.

Jerry Rice doesn't even need to acknowledge that TO exists. These 2 are exact opposites. TO's attitude is a shame. He's as physically gifted as any receiver you'll find. Unfortunately for him, football is very mental. Jerry Rice wasn't the fastest or most physical, but was so mentally sharp and spent so much time preparing, that he couldn't be touched.

    • My tailoring green idea was not for him to be the starter but to add some value beyond just a developmental quarterback I think size speed is something Bryce doesn't have he has those and would immediately feel the fourth and one package and possibly red zone and some power packages for us
    • Do you have against Willis I believe you're around when we have the draft with corral and Willis were on the board and me personally I was banging the table for Willis as early as round one but a lot of people thought corral was better but it's amazing with a little coaching and time can do with me I always go with potential and upside versus oh the guy just plays football you know sometimes that's not enough
    • I know or needs and this probably isn't with a lot of people want but if he's available at 19 I don't think you can discount that he would be the best player on the board I think with 43 speed he's as fast as leggette. 63240 something he would stretch the field  Strike fear over the middle of opposing linebackers and also probably cure our long time history of no serviceable tight end since Greg Olsen I think a lot of needs like tackle maybe linebacker could be filled and free agency to the point like they did last year where we fix a lot of this and draft the best player we can on the board.  After his combine and the numbers in the 43-in vertical I'm not sure that he will be available but if he is I bet that he's highly considered what say you
