Josh McCown beating out Matt Moore...

The latest depth chart shows McCown over Moore.

Thats bad news for Moore, who has actually started and won Panthers games.

One of those two guys likely will not be on the roster next season.

Moore should based on upside and $$ - I think mccown was a bandaid in case Jake couldn't go this year (or get hurt again).

Why isn't Matt the bandaid? He is not a rookie anymore, has game experience, and more time in the Panthers system by 1 year.

I think Josh has shown the coaches a thing or two. He may be the chosen one to be groomed to start in a few years.

McCown has more experience and should be #2 on the depth chart. Moore still needs more time to grow.

I'm almost starting to think they don't know what to do with the back up anymore. It would have been nice to have gotten (and kept) a comfortable lead in a few game to really see what Moore and McCown can do. But that doesn't matter anymore. Can only hope either one would be ready......just in case.

Wouldn't it... The Panthers just can't seem to do that...

I did notice when Jake came up limping against NO that McCown was the one warming up... kinda surprised me.

Hasn't McCown been #2 all year, esp. since Moore started the year injured? I'm not one to put too much stock in preseason performances, but perhaps the coaches were a little wary of Moore since he had a rough go of it. Maybe they just wanted to make sure he had some time to sit back before they had to throw him back in there. Of course, that's what happened last year, but I think there was more pressure this year, so maybe they just wanted a guy that had been through the ups and downs of the league before. While far from great the guy definitely hasn't been David Carr terrible - 35 TDs to 40 picks in 46 games played.

I don't think it bodes ill for Moore... if anything, maybe just another vet for him to watch.

Hasn't McCown been #2 all year

I was thinking the same thing.

Usually when they show the sideline cam, it's McCown who is talking with Delhomme and Davidson. Sometimes Moore is in there as well, but it appears obvious McCown is more involved.

McCown is a good QB. I'm happy to have him as the backup. He's been on a bunch of shitty teams and never got a fair shot to be a starter.

Moore has been the emergency QB all year so I think McCown has been #2 for a while. The question is at what point in the season did Moore become officially healthy enough to challenge McCown for #2?

I'm not so sure that both won't be back next year.

With a QB getting up there in years, it doesn't seem too crazy to carry 3 on the roster. Now if one gets beat out in camp, that is a totally different story.

Moore came close to the IR list. In fact, some were surprised he wasn't stashed there.

But McCown came to the team as the #2 due to injury and Moore practiced at #3 all year as far as I know. I don't recall hearing anything about Moore's health the whole season so I wonder at what point McCown won the job? Moore was scheduled to be healthy in October (out 6-8 weeks).

I'd have loved to see McCown play some snaps but that would have required our defense to protect a frickin' lead!
