Jeff Davidson - Next Browns HC?

Now there's been no mention of this, but would it suprise you if Mangini doesn't work out that they maybe look at Davidson? He was the interm OC up there in '06 I believe after they fired somebody. Maybe it's too early to be talking about this, but I thought it might end up becoming a possibility.

I know the man wants to advance but I would sure hate to mess with our coach staff at this point

Yeah they are doing that currently right now with Giants defensive coordinator, if they talk to coaches during playoff game week, they get in big trouble, but who knows

I like Davidson. I hope he stays here for a while. He's conservative but effective. I think if he has a few more years with Double Trouble he could develop new run schemes and then the world had better watch out.

The Browns can only talk to Davidson if they are looking for him to be the head coach. Otherwise the Panthers have the right to refuse to allow them to interview him. Or at least that is how I understand it.

The only job you can't block an assistant from interviewing for is a head coach job. If the job isn't a substantial promotion but is more a lateral move then you can refuse permission.

I doubt if he would leave short of a head coaching job and frankly there is little reason to believe he could do it at this point.

I don't think Davidson has shown enough as an OC to be considered for a head coaching job. It's not that I don't think he's capable, it would just be risky for a team to give him the reins.

How did he leave them before when he was the OC? If he was fired I doubt they or he would entertain the idea.
