Not tag him for 1 mil per game, eat up your cap, then let him walk away for nothing - ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU TRADED A 1st ROUND PICK FOR A SITUATIONAL PASS RUSHER.

Are you so naive as to think the front office drafted Brown thinking he would be nothing more than a situational pass rusher?

Yes, he was a situational pass rusher last year -- but that's why they held on to Peppers. Likewise, they drafted Brown knowing full well that Peppers would be gone after the year if a long-term deal couldn't be reached.

No I don't think that drafted him to be that. But as of right now, that's what he is.

I agree with Proudiddy here. You hold on to a player last season that at first said he wanted to leave, so we tagged him and wanted 2 first rounders. Then after Pep signed the tender after we got a new DC, Pep said he was interested in working out a long term deal.....but nothing happens...So this offseason after basically wasting cap space all last season, instead of tagging and trading or working out some long term deal...you let him walk free.

We cannot speak about the failure to reach an agreement. The panthers could have offered peppers a very fair deal and he wanted more... we don't know

Peppers saying he wanted to leave COULD have been a negotiation strategy set forth by his agent (That's what they get paid for)...

I would not call it wasting cap space... we've had time to develop, evaluate and bring along our young talent in DE before throwing them in full time game situation.

This offseason it was going to be difficult to tag and trade peppers. Once again he would have to sign his tender... until then we could discuss trades with other teams...also having 21 million as his salary and new team would have to negotiate a new deal with 21 mil this year as a starting point... He can say I am all ready making 21 mil, so I will play it out if I don't get an amazing deal....

Once again it is not as black and white as you people try to make it out to be.

But yet they have no problem giving a pretty good sized contract to a washed up QB that just shat himself in the playoffs.

While I didn't want to see Delhomme extended, we don't know that the front office didn't offer Peppers a nice contract. He could have just balked. If a player does not want to be with your team for the long haul, why hold on to him?

Now, you can make the argument that the front office should have tried to get something for him, but I think if there were a deal that both Peppers and the team would have agreed with, it would have been done.

I'm not sure if you guys remember what happened a year ago. When we tagged Peppers, he said he would only play for four teams. How many teams do you think were just chomping at the bit to shell out a million a game or picks to a 30-year-old defensive end who likely wouldn't sign a long-term contract?

Makes no difference if it was before or after the draft. You dont give a old, washed up QB a 5 year deal where the next offseason you have to pay him 13 mil no matter if you keep him or cut him even if he stinks it up that year. Which he did immensely.

Don't want to open up this can, but I will say he did just take the team to the playoffs... and though arizona was a disaster... they probably felt he would be on the team atleast 2 more seasons... no reasons to really believe other wise

It does make a difference when your up against the cap and have to create space... I can only assume his was one of the easiest to restructure to make room.

So what? All that meant was that Carey had to act as a mediator between the two. Happens all the time.

Actually that kind of thing rarely happens... trades themselves are rare enough in the NFL... in that fashion... even more rare.

Add to that Carey is a POS agent with no clue what he's doing.

Suck a dick you dumb f**k hurney. What a bitch...

Payin him 16 mil last year and not getting any compensation for him is pure genius. At least keeping him this last year got us that super bowl ring!

f**k hurney.

Yeah you're right, Hurney is an idiot, he should have tagged Peppers again, find out no team would want to take up the huge whopping contract and give up picks and then we pay Peppers $20 million and be stuck right where we have been again next year.

:sosp:
