Now that we've moved on...

..from that guy who shall remain nameless. We can worry about the guys that "fit the big picture" and who we plan to build the team around. Guys who need to be extended, such as Richard Marshall, Thomas Davis, and DeAngelo Williams (next year?). Im glad that the team is able to move on, and we can too, bc frankly it was getting old. So we usually deem the offseason as "active" on March 5th when Free Agency begins. But of course moves can be made before then. What is the first move we should make? a blockbuster signing? a trade? an extension? a release?

I expect no blockbuster anything. I doubt anything happens until more is known about the CBA. I agree that I'm glad the charade is over as well.

you will about a 1/3 of the way through the season when you are looking at one of the weakest DLs you have seen in Carolina.

I can see the pessimism about the D-line because Peppers is gone. However, remember that the DT position is gonna be better with Tank & the others coming back healthy so the D-line as far as the DT is gonna be fine. DE is gonna be a "?" but I believe Brown/Johnson will be solid.

The DL has always been the core of a Fox defense and it is about to hit rock bottom this year.

the pessimism isn't just b/c Peppers is gone.....it is a DL that has slowly been getting worse from a talent aspect the past several seasons. Above average guys are consistantly replaced w/ average guys and a compeittion of outcasts. Simply put, you can't rely on the draft for all your needs. Now(unless they make a move in FA) it will be a DL that is very average at just about every spot on the line.

Everyone thinks that we will go out and just get fa because peps gone, but that doesnt mean we will be spending money on fa at all this year. i dont know what draft picks we get will really contribute huge this year, but the dline was weakened a whole bunch by pep leaving. not only do you lose a probowl caliber player off the line but you lose the rotation for des. who is going to be our starters brown and johnson? brown and brayton? who is even capable of getting double digit sacks? is brown even a every down de?

    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
