Add Jake To The Ring of Fame

Recommended Posts

There has been alot of bashing of Jake over the last couple of years but without Jake we would not have had the Cardiac Cats, Our Super Bowl run, the multiple come from behind wins and most importantly a Class act representing us in the Media. He is the best QB we have ever had.

When we won Jake was humble and deflected to the team as a WIN. When we lost he shoulder alot of the blame even if it wasn't his fault.

Those of you that wanted him cut or demoted to second string I can understand that it is what you felt was best for this team. Now is the time to join together in thanking him as a valued member of this team for 7 awesome seasons (ok 6).

I propose that the Jake bashing end and somewhere we join together in believing Jake Deserves to be in the Panther Ring of Fame.

Anyone want to Join the bandwagon?

Thanks Jake, God Bless you and as we say in the Navy May you have Fair wins and Following Seas.

I'd agree, but not immediately.

Give it a few years, then do it.

I agree, once we start winning again people will be in a better mood. Nobody wants to honor the man that has made football horrible since Jan 09. When all is said and done people will remember the good more than the bad, it's just human nature.

He's the best QB we've had so far, but the bar has been set pretty low. He deserves a special little spot in panthers history for his role in our success but nobody will support that right now.

I think ring of honnor or fame or whatever it is officially called is probably a little too much for Jake, IMO. Now, retiring his number is something I could see more likey but like Scot said, several years down the road.

I know there are a lot of 89 and 90 jerseys out there but 17 seemed to be the most to me. It would be really hard for someone else to wear 17 considering his leadership on the team.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Let the Jake haters cool off.

Probably a prudent decision. I just don't know if his level of play warrants it, and I believe that many people aren't being objective (granted, either way).

It would be ironic if Matt Moore , or some other guy comes in and actually becomes an annual bona fide threat, and succeeds in ways that Jake never has. That might put things in more perspective, making Jakes chances of getting in the ring that much more difficult.

Retiring a jersey is generally considered a higher honor than a ring of fame.

There's not a single player whose jersey I'd support retiring right now. Not even guys like Minter, Smith or Kasay. In my opinion, Sam Mills will likely be the only Panther jersey retired for a long time to come.

I have always saw the two as completely unrelated honors. Retiring a number is about the impact a player had on the team and with teammates. The ring of fame is more about the franshise and community. As good of a guy as Jake was, I never really heard or saw him in the community the way I saw Minter and Rucker or having a franshise impact the way Mills or (brain fart trying to remember the name of the first team president).

Most fans probably would see the retiring of a number more special but I don't think that is how JR looks at it. I might be completely wrong though, just my impression.

Also, another way to look at it would be that retiring a number is based on what a player does on the field. The ring of fame is what an player does on the field as a player and then how he continues to contribute after his time as a player is over i.e. Mills.

    • Well yeah. Last time vs NO if we had had good QB play and half ass pass pro it is a different game. And that is the story more often, in point of fact, than the two or three hero games everyone wants to use to define the player.  That box was so stacked against the run it was basically impossible to break through it, you had to go over and around. It is what we knew was gonna be employed by teams and we were unable to stop them from doing it.    I am real interested to see the first 3rd and 8 and see how NO defenses it in the back end. Because they can look at that Rams tape and learn, but will they have enough fear/respect that it can happen to them or will we need to prove it again before they do?   Most people don’t learn from others’ mistakes and  need to make their own.
    • I like that Tillis is so down to earth  we will see where it goes ill say something controversial on a day that, along with next week, determines the panthers 2025  and 2026 fate  he referenced ‘money ball’, statistics and self scouting multiple times. it really makes me feel that Bryce will be back regardless of what happens over the next 4 games as that is the smart move for financial stability but by no means does that guarantee Bryce anything past that.  They will improve year over year regardless of position or who is affected       however, they will do the appropriate diligence and not cut off their nose to spite their face….it won’t be an emotional decision…unlike us Huddlers….for example, if Young’s happy ass shits the bed today, I’ll be less than pleased ..particularly having seen what they will do and having a bye week.  Brandon Staley is a good defensive coordinator and former HC.  His defense is aging but he can still develop a good game plan
