if we got weather or wither-spoon would we have best LB corps?

The value of an ALL-PRO lb corp falls off these days in the NFL when the passing game is so lethal and especially when they have an unproven line playing in front of them. But if we got either witherspoon in FA, or weatherspoon from the draft, would we have the best LB corps in the NFL?

The only problem with getting Spoon is that it goes against the FO's apparent plans. He is one of the top ILB/OLB UFA's on the market now and he will pretty much demand a 3 year deal, minimum. I don't think the Panthers are looking to take on longer contracts for free agents.

Could be wrong though and he would be worth it.

The problem is that 'Spoons best position is weakside, same as Davis. Both can play strongside, but neither would be near as effective as they would at WLB. And Davis is clearly better than "Spoon ever was (even moreso now that 'Spoon is getting a bit older), so it would be a downgrade to move Davis. And to be honest, I think Connor will do about as well at SLB as either of them would. So, I would like to sign "Spoon, but as a backup, not starter...which will probably never happen.

I mean the guy is a top 20 talent. Witherspoon would be nice to bring back in for sentimental sake but it is not a cost effective move. I will go on record as saying that Linebacker is not a huge issue unless Dan Connor or James Anderson can not step up.

I say yes, I think between TD and Beason we could add one more good LB, but not through the draft, but through free agency and we already know Witherspoon can bring the heat so hopefully we go after him

lol, who do we have left??? James Anderson??? Dan Connor???:mad2::mad2:
Yes. Both have showed they can play well in this last season. Which is more than Spoon has displayed.

Don't worry, I understand he's still a fan favorite, and "ain't nobody better than Spoon! Bring him back at all costs!!!! then we'll finially forgive the front office for letting him go to begin with!"

Something our front office has never done, is neglect the linebacker position.

They draft good guys, even when we didn't have a need for them. Now is the time for them to step up. They showed me, and others who were watching, that they could, indeed step up and play.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
