Derek Anderson's Contract Terminated

Pennignton is with the dolphins..

It would be crazy to just write Anderson off.Bring him in why not?

because he's worthless. he doesn't provide mentoring because he's not a good quarterback. he provides one thing, and that's competition, which we could get from a rookie or UDFA with a lot more upside, not to mention a lot cheaper.

Pennington is one of the most accurate passers in the league(he might be the most accurate now that Warner is retired.) I'd hardly say he's overrated.

See, that's one of the reasons he is overrated. People think he's ridiculously accurate, but that's only because a vast majority of his passes are dump-offs to running backs who are barely 5 yards away from him. I'm not saying he's wildly inaccurate, it's just that his completion % stat is inflated due to that.

Also, his accuracy doesn't help his weak arm. Anytime he throws it down field, the timing is way off because the ball takes so long to get there. Usually results in the receiver getting destroyed, or the pass being incomplete. I think I've seen those scenarios happen way more than I've seen him hit a receiver in stride anywhere beyond 10 yards. Seen him miss many wide-open receivers that way.

Pennignton is with the dolphins..

Ah, so he re-signed. I thought he was still a free agent.

You know, I am getting tired of this "Matt Moore needs a mentor behind him" talk...

He has spent the last, what, three seasons with Carolina? Did he not learn anything from Jake Delhomme?

Point being is, why does Moore need a vet to "mentor" him? I don't get that

You wont get true competition from a 2nd or 3rd round rookie QB.

And to say he is worthless and he is not good.Is just not a smart statment he has shown he has the skill.A change and stable org will do wonders for a QB.

Because he's still inexperienced actually playing the game.

Vets that have been around a while often see things the younger ones don't.

(that's actually true at any position, but especially at QB)

I think it's hilarious that people are screaming about how we won't or will sign Anderson because he's a veteran. He's not a veteran. He's 10 months older than Matt Moore. People are acting like he's 35 years old or something.

If not for Matt Moore transferring from UCLA, they would have been at OSU at the same time. He had to burn a year of eligibility by sitting out.

If we bring in Anderson, it is almost certainly to push Moore for an honest to God QB battle. I'm not sure Anderson is interested in:

1. Pushing another OSU guy out of a starting role.

2. Losing another QB competition by no fault of his own.

3. Coming to a team where we are ONE WR deep in the passing attack.

It makes no sense for Anderson to consider us. Why not go to one of many locales around the league where there is no real incumbent and walk into a starting role. The Rams for example. Yes, they're going to draft a QB and we know that.... but if Anderson signs a one year deal and tears it up then he makes bank regardless. He's not going to open up any eyes by going into camp against another QB and losing the job. Oakland could be another destination. JaMarcus Russell isn't a QB. A strong armed QB like Anderson could really make hay with all those fast young guys there. And if he wants to back somebody up, Seattle is a great place to consider with Hasselbeck being made of glass. I don't see the Cardinals for the same reason the Browns cut him. Leinart needs to take that job.

Wow, a useful post on the huddle that makes sense, provides actual information and comes to a reasonable conclusion.

*dies of shock*

It just seems like if we were going after him we would've already thrown our names in the hat...

I don't understand why we wouldn't give him a chance b/c I don't think he'll cost much and if he sucks you can cut your losses and it wouldn't matter.
