Do you have faith in Dwayne Jarrett's ability to step up next season?

He caught almost everything thrown his way by Moore

I think the problem is he only was thrown to about 6 times with jake under center.... I saw his show great skills in the final 3 games. I'd say he could be big.

These things do factor in.

Jake rarely threw to guys he didn't trust. He trusted Smith, Muhammad, King and Rosario. Beyond that, not many got thrown to, likely because Jake's faith in them was only so-so.

That said, Jarrett has legitimate issues.

Suggesting that he's neither the hardest worker nor the sharpest knife in the drawer would be an exercise in understatement. His dumb moves arguably cost us the Patriots game. And it's also pretty obvious if you watch some games that he's half-assing to a level that would make Julius Peppers say "come on, man, give it some effort" :sosp:

More than one reporter has said he often looks like the best receiver on the team...in practice. And yeah, he's shown flashes. It's possible that if the light turns on, he could become what he's teased since pretty much his rookie year.

Do I have faith in that though?

The exact same amount of faith as I have that a coin flip will come up "heads".

If he were on any other team in the league, he'd get trashed. But just because he's a Panther people still cut him slack. 33 catches in three years. There is a reason for it, and it has nothing to do with Fox's stubborn ways.

Because of our QB play his time in the league, seriously to all you haters it's no surprise he had his best game of his career when he got a chance to start with Moore at QB.

As for the question, yea I have faith DJ will surprise everyone this year.

I have to admit I'm pinning a lot of my hope on the idea that forcing DJ to step up into a starting role will snap him out of his little lazy funk.

If he's a starter and fails miserably you will be held solely accountable.

Or you could buy everyone some cake (or pie) to make up for it.

His best game was against Saints backups and he barely even got his TD.

He could fail again this season, and you'd be first in line to tell the FO to sign him to one more year because you know his 5th year is THE year.

Let it go. It's okay to admit a Panther sucks.

Yeah I will agree he runs poo routes.

I don't think his speed will matter much with those hands if he can run crisp routes.

Ricky Proehl was at least as slow as Jarrett, but he knew his routes like the back of his hand.

05 ricky prohel had these huge long balls where he would fly by a LB in the slot, get a 5 yard head start, and still get tackled from behind. That's what made him so awsome, he got by on pure veteran savvy.

Second stringers or no, I don't think it's pure coincidence that the only game he's had with Matt Moore at QB was also the only game in which he's done ANYTHING of significance since we drafted him.

Truth be told, I'm far less optimistic than I appear in this thread, but I do think the people completely writing him off are being too harsh at this point.

It's not the only game he's played with Matt Moore at QB. 3 games in 07 he did diddly. Rosario, Robinson, and Carter all got touches I don't see why he couldn't have had at least had 1 catch. He played 2 games in 09 with all of his production coming from the saints game.

It's not a coincidence that he played well during the saints game, anybody is going to play better when they go against backups.

It's not harsh to completley write him off. Last year a ton of people were saying that he wasn't a bust because WR's need 3 years to develop in the NFL. Now that we're past 3 years he's not a bust because:

He's too young to be a bust.

OR

there's a very small chance he couldn't be a bust so we shouldn't write him off just yet. It's very likely he is but it's too hasty to write him off.

OR

We never throw to him. Even though plenty of other recievers in his situation have produced at least marginally. Not to mention the billions of other rookie WR's acheiving success. It's the team's fault he isn't succeeding.
