Saros just doesn’t move the needle for me in a Necas trade. I would love to have him but would rather trade a draft pick for him than water down the return on Necas.

Also hope they can find a way to keep Guentzel.

to me Saros is similar to Freddie, good in reg season and bad in playoffs, plus what do the Canes do with Freddie unless we ship him off with Necas. Only plus is see is Saros isn't injury prone and is younger.

PantherChris, good points on Jake - seems like we are at least trying to retain him

Buffalo to release Jeff Skinner. Does it make sense to bring him back for a 3rd or 4th line 1x1.5?  Not sure if he wants to play defense but maybe he would be willing?

If they release him, it's only to make room for Necas or another younger player. He's under contract for another 3 seasons @ $9M AAV. And he's 32 years old.

Buffalo has about $24M in cap space.

I’m way higher on Necas than most but if we can somehow land a top 10ish pick and hopefully keep Guentzel, that’s a big deal. Although I think Necas is going to blow up once he’s on a team with a more free system and a bigger role.

Speaking of a top 10 pick, NJ is rumored to be dangling that #10 pick for Necas.

Actual rumor you’ve seen or your hope?

No, but with the Skinner issue (he's not giving up his no-movement clause and he's got 3 years left on a 8 yrs for $72M), attendance issues and a disappointing year, all signs point to a mini-rebuild of sorts. They have #14 and 2 2nd round picks in this draft.

Hell, I'd throw in KK and retain 30% of his salary this season for Tuch and #14.

I think KK is a net negative even with 50% retention. It would probably take a young prospect or a 1st round pick to get a team to take him.

    • That's a very incorrect statement right off the bat, coaches get fired for winning ugly all the time.  Every coach of a playoff team that then gets fired, got fired because they won ugly and didn't improve their players enough to win in the postseason. Guys like Andy Reid have been fired for "winning ugly" like you said, because they kept winning in spite of the improvement of their players. Also, "this is a fanbase starved for wins" is a statement I also don't agree with, I'm not "starved for wins", I'm "starved for a winning and contending franchise" which are two VERY different things. If the team and fans just want to win some games, then that's a loser mentality, sorry, but it is.  We should want to contend, not win a handful of games.  Every time this comes up I point back to the Lions the last 5 years or so.  They were losing games but improving every week while doing so a few years back.  THAT is how you improve as a franchise and move the needle towards contending, not winning games ugly.
    • Good lord. I don’t think I have ever seen a hole that open.
    • this is true.  But NFL Ss and defenses are actively taking that away and playing to take them away vs most teams.  The problem thus far in BY's career......is they are cheating and not respecting the deep game which makes the smaller/mid range game harder to pull off.  and Dallas is an anomaly game.  using those random games that run counter to vast work......doesn't really change the discussion/issues in Carolina.  Bryce Young took the shots this week because they were not just NFL open but college open.    Wide open dudes downfield that really were coverage busts/issues.
